There are only two weeks left in the year and we are in need of an outpouring of support. We typically receive about 35% of our yearly support during the month of December. This allows us to plan for the year and make up the monthly shortfalls throughout the year. Our new facility in Kenya will allow us to minister to those in great need for many years, but only if a flow of support continues.
I often share pictures of smiling kids in our school, but we need to be reminded that this school is providing a Godly shelter in an otherwise extremely stormy childhood. We recently conducted a study of our families and found that 40% live in what are called shanty houses in the surrounding slum area. These homes have no electricity or running water. There is a single community toilet and most people use buckets and empty them into the street. Another 50% of the families live in 10 by 10 single rooms that must provide shelter for parents and several kids. Lack of jobs cause many to turn to drugs, alcohol and prostitution. We have truly become a shining light in a very dark environment, often providing the only source of hope. We are able to provide this hope through education and food, but more importantly through the love of Jesus Christ.
