Kenya School Update

Now!

I am so excited to finally be able to write this update message about our school in Mathare Kenya. The school has been operating since 2011, when we began in a rented facility with 30 students. At the end of 2015, we purchased a plot of land and began to build our own facility. You can see the progress through 2016 in the following message:

My daughter and I traveled to Kenya in January of this year and I was very pleased with our school operations. I have an excellent Director who manages our construction and has hired quality teaching staff. We have classes up through 5th grade with a total of 133 students. Our budget needs have certainly grown, but your donations have allowed us to continue to pay the teachers, purchase supplies, and feed all the children.

However, in February I received some disturbing news. Since we did not finish the top level of the facility, the rainy season caused the floor to become excessively wet and water began to seep through the concrete. We had assumed the floor would be covered with a roof and had not treated the floor or planned for run-off water. This threatened to compromise the entire facility. Enter a time of much prayer! The only solution was to construct a roof with proper consideration given to rain. The solution sounded simple but was expensive. I sent out a request for funds which detailed the need and, praise God, all funds for the project were received. My faith is continually being stretched!

The picture of the facility now shows an additional level. This represents four new, finished classrooms and two new bathrooms. The very top level is unfinished with just a few walls constructed with the extra brick. However, the top level can now properly drain water and can also be used for storage once we put up some tin roofing sheets. An extra exciting bit of news is that our space is adequate for our current needs as well as projected needs for 2018. We will not need to finish the classrooms on the top floor until 2019!

Thank you so much for your continued support of this ministry. We are still in need of partners who will support the monthly operating costs of the school. If you would like to join with us in the project, you can do so by clicking on the Donate Now button or simply write me back and ask for monthly donation envelopes.

Have a Christ Centered Day!
