In last week’s update message I focused on what has already been accomplished with our school in Kenya (click here to read). We have a facility for over 200 students that is fully paid for! This is a major accomplishment!! We also have the internal structure in place with teachers and administration and planning to actually teach with excellence and the love of Christ. Again, a major accomplishment!
However, now we must take on the even bigger challenge of actually running the school for the next year and beyond. In this message, I want to let you know the cost involved with operating the school and ask for your help. Please continue to read and help as you are able.
Our school currently has an enrollment of just over 200 kids from preschool to 5th grade. We employ a staff of 17, which includes teachers, helpers, a cook, a guard, and a director. All of our staff are excellent and from the local area. We feed the entire school a morning porridge, lunch, and an afternoon snack. We assist with uniforms and a great variety of school books and supplies. The school is completely free for the students and this ministry is the only supporter of the school. To accomplish all of this for 2019, I need to raise a total of $75,000. This seems like a great amount of money, but consider how much it would cost to run a school for 200 kids in the area you live. We have been given a unique opportunity, but we really need to see it through year after year to see the lasting benefits to the community.
The school budget is partially met by those who commit to monthly donations. To those who contribute monthly, Thank you so much! You are a very important part of this ministry. I definitely need more people to commit to monthly support. Currently, monthly support makes up about 25% of our required funds. The rest needs to come from those who make one-time donations throughout the year and especially in December. To those who wait until December to make a donation, Thank you so much!! You are a very important part of this ministry! I definitely need people to make generous end of year donations!
