A Belief That Saves

A_Belief_That_Saves

In the message “The Father’s Will” we saw that not all who do great things for God will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but “only he who does the will of My Father” (Matthew 7:21). We further saw that the Father’s will is “that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life” (John 6:40). We are given the gift of eternal life because of our belief in Jesus, not because of what we do; “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).

Salvation can never be earned, it is a gift to those who believe. However, we must understand what it means to believe and what changes will occur when we believe. “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder” (James 2:19). A saving belief is much more than just acknowledging God’s existence or even the existence of His Son – even the demons believe this!

Belief in Jesus is never simply an intellectual understanding. Belief implies a humble surrender. We will never “look to the Son” unless we first recognize our eternally lost condition due to sin; and we will never truly “believe in Him” for salvation until we accept our complete inability to save ourselves. A drowning man will never reach up for help until he first understands and accepts his need to be rescued.

To be rescued, we must believe so completely that we abandon all other “rescuers” and cling to the only One who can truly save; “any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:33). Giving up everything cannot save us, but true belief gives up all other sources of hope. It also reveals the trivial nature of our worldly attachments and creates an understanding that everything belongs to God. We see our life as lived for Him and desire to do ALL for His glory.

James 2:14,17
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? … In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Belief must produce a change in our life or we know it is not a true belief – it is nothing more than dead intellectual understanding! At the moment we truly believe, we are “marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 1:13), and we become “a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Belief creates change through the work of the Holy Spirit!!

If we lack the evidence of a changed life, we must not focus on creating the change. This type of change becomes self-righteous “filthy rags.” Rather, we must return to the cross and place ALL our trust in Jesus, truly believing He has paid the penalty for our sin and has granted us passage through the narrow gate to eternal life. As we completely turn over control to our Heavenly Father, fruit and good deeds will abound. Our life will be forever changed, but only when we begin with a belief that saves.

Creencia que Salva

En el mensaje “La Voluntad del Padre” vimos que no todos los que hacen grandes cosas para Dios entrarán al Cielo, sino “sólo el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre” (Mateo 7:21). Mas adelante vimos que la voluntad del Padre es “que todo el que reconozca al Hijo y crea en él, tenga vida eterna” (Juan 6:40). Nos han dado el regalo de la vida eterna por nuestra creencia (o fe) en Jesús, no por CUALQUIER cosa que hacemos; “todos nuestros actos de justicia son como trapos de inmundicia” (Isaías 64:6).

La salvación es un regalo para aquellos que creen y nunca puede ser ganado. Pero…es necesario que entendamos que significa creer y que cambios habrán cuando creemos. “¿Tú crees que hay un solo Dios? ¡Magnífico! También los demonios lo creen, y tiemblan” (Santiago 2:19). Una creencia salvadora es mucho mas que reconocer la existencia de Dios o aún la existencia de Su Hijo – ¡aún los demonios creen esto!

La creencia en Jesús no es solamente un entendimiento intelectual. Creer implica someternos con humildad. Nunca “reconoceremos al hijo” al menos que primeramente reconozcamos nuestra condición, que estamos eternamente perdidos debido al pecado; y nunca verdaderamente “creeremos en El” hasta que aceptemos nuestra inhabilidad completa de salvarnos a nosotros mismos. Un hombre que se está ahogando no buscará ayuda hasta que primeramente acepte su necesidad de ser rescatado.

Para ser rescatado, tenemos que creer tan completamente que abandonamos todos los otros tipos de rescate y nos aferramos al Único que verdaderamente puede salvar; “cualquiera de ustedes que no renuncie a todos sus bienes, no puede ser mi discípulo” (Lucas 14:33). Despojarnos de todo no nos puede salvar, pero la creencia verdadera revela la naturaleza trivial de nuestras ataduras mundanas y crea un entendimiento de que todo pertenece a El. Veremos nuestra vida como una vivida por El y haremos TODO para Su gloria.

Santiago 2:14,17
“Hermanos míos, ¿de qué le sirve a uno alegar que tiene fe, si no tiene obras? ¿Acaso podrá salvarlo esa fe?…Así también la fe por sí sola, si no tiene obras, está muerta.”

La creencia tiene que producir un cambio en nuestras vidas o sabremos que no es una creencia verdadera – es nada mas que un entendimiento intelectual muerto! En el momento que realmente creemos, somos “marcados con el sello que es el Espíritu Santo prometido” (Efesios 1:13), y llegamos a ser “una nueva creación. ¡Lo viejo ha pasado, ha llegado ya lo nuevo!” (2 Corintios 5:17). ¡Creencia crea cambios a través de la obra del Espíritu Santo!

Si nos hacen falta evidencias de una vida cambiada, no nos podemos enfocar en crear el cambio. Este tipo de cambio llegará a ser “trapos de inmundicia.” Si nos hacen falta evidencias, debemos volver a la cruz y poner TODA nuestra confianza en Jesús, creyendo que El ya pagó el castigo por nuestros pecados y que nos ha otorgado el pasaje a través de la puerta estrecha a la vida eterna. De la manera que entregamos control a nuestro Padre Celestial, fruto y obras buenas abundarán. Nuestra vida será cambiada por siempre, pero solamente si comenzamos con una creencia que salva.

The Father’s Will

We often consider how God uses all kinds of circumstances to draw us close to His side. The purpose of being drawn close is ultimately to be transformed to the image of His Son and to have intimate fellowship with Him for all eternity. But initially, the purpose of being drawn near is so we can be introduced.

The Kingdom of Heaven is open only to those who truly believe in Jesus. We may think this to be intolerant, but if we profess to believe the Bible is true there can be no other conclusion: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Our Father is drawing us near because the narrow gate is only open to those who are known to His Son.

Matthew 7:21-23
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in Heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from Me, you evildoers!'”

Clearly, being “good” does not ensure we are known by Jesus. Neither does going to church, reading our Bible, teaching Sunday School…or even writing devotional messages! Jesus knows, and takes away the sin, of “only he who does the will of My Father.”

Fortunately, Jesus also tells us exactly how to do His Father’s will: “For My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:40). The will of our Heavenly Father is to truly know and be known by His Son.

All the wonderful things we do in the name of Jesus count nothing toward granting us the gift of eternal life. True believers in a risen and glorified Lord will certainly desire to turn from a life of sin and obediently serve; “anyone who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me” (Matthew 10:38). And while our obedience demonstrates that our faith is not dead (James 2:17), entrance through the gate of eternal life is based on sincere belief, not on the results of belief.

We must spread this message throughout the world and, most importantly, we must receive this message into our own heart! All our “good” will be burned up and cast aside if done without first having placed the entirety of our life in His hands. He is drawing us near because belief in Jesus is both necessary and sufficient for our Salvation. He is drawing us near and inviting us to submit to the Father’s will.

La Voluntad del Padre

Con frecuencia consideramos como Dios utiliza todo tipo de circunstancias para acercarnos a Su lado. El propósito de mantenernos a Su lado es por último ser transformado a la semejanza de Su Hijo y tener una relación íntima con El por toda la eternidad. Pero inicialmente, el propósito de acercarnos es para que podamos conocer a Su Hijo.

El reino de Dios esta abierto solamente a aquellos quienes han creído verdaderamente en Jesús. Podemos pensar que esto es “intolerante”, pero si profesamos que la Biblia es verdad, no puede haber otra conclusión: “Entrad por la puerta estrecha; porque ancha es la puerta, y espacioso el camino que lleva a la perdición, y muchos son los que entran por ella; porque estrecha es la puerta, y angosto el camino que lleva a la vida, y pocos son los que la hallan” (Mateo 7:13-14). Nuestro Padre nos esta acercando porque la puerta estrecha solo esta abierta para aquellos que son conocidos por Su Hijo.

Mateo 7:21-23
“No todo el que me dice: Señor, Señor, entrará en el reino de los cielos, sino el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en los cielos. Muchos me dirán en aquel día: Señor, Señor, ¿no profetizamos en tu nombre, y en tu nombre echamos fuera demonios, y en tu nombre hicimos muchos milagros? Y entonces les declararé: Nunca os conocí; apartaos de mí, hacedores de maldad.”

Claramente, ser “bueno” no nos garantiza que somos conocidos por Jesús. Tampoco asistir a una iglesia, leer nuestra Biblia, enseñar escuela dominical o aún escribir mensajes devocionales! Jesús sabe, y quita el pecado de solamente “el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre.”

Afortunadamente, Jesús también nos dice exactamente como hacer la voluntad de Su Padre: “Y esta es la voluntad del que me ha enviado: Que todo aquél que ve al Hijo, y cree en él, tenga vida eterna; y yo le resucitaré en el día postrero” (Juan 6:40). La voluntad de nuestro Padre Celestial es verdaderamente conocer y ser conocido por Su Hijo.

Todas las cosas maravillosas que hacemos en el nombre de Jesús cuentan absolutamente por nada para ganarnos el regalo de la vida eterna. El que cree verdaderamente en un Señor resucitado y glorificado ciertamente deseará repentirse de su vida de pecado y servir obedientemente; “y el que no toma su cruz y sigue en pos de mí, no es digno de mí” (Mateo 10:38). Pero la entrada por la puerta estrecha de la vida eterna está basada SOLAMENTE en la creencia sincera, no en los resultados de la creencia.

Debemos llevar este mensaje a todo el mundo y, aún mas importante, debemos recibir este mensaje en nuestro propio corazón! Todo lo “bueno” de nosotros será quemado y echado a un lado si primeramente no hemos puesto todo nuestra vida en Sus manos. El nos esta atrayendo porque creer en Jesús es a la misma vez necesaria y suficiente para nuestra Salvación. El nos esta llamando e invitandonos a someternos a la voluntad del Padre.

A Lifetime of Conviction

A_Lifetime_of_Conviction

Daniel was one of the first captives taken by the Babylonians in 605 BC. Upon his arrival in Babylon, Daniel was selected to receive three years of specialized training (as well as special food and drink) to prepare him for service in the palace. This special treatment would have caused Daniel to violate the laws of God, so he “resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine” (Daniel 1:8).

His convictions had a profound impact on those around him – especially his three closest friends who were soon thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to bow to a golden image; “We want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up” (Daniel 3:18).

Daniel served seventy years under the kings of Babylon, and his convictions earned him a place as the most trusted advisor in all the land. When the Persians defeated the Babylonians, the new king even “planned to set Daniel over the whole kingdom” (Daniel 6:3). But when the other officials became jealous, they convinced the king to pass a law forbidding prayer to anyone except the king.

Though he knew he would be severely punished, Daniel held to his convictions and prayed to God three times a day. For this violation of the law, Daniel was thrown into a den of lions; but “God sent His angel, and He shut the mouths of the lions” (Daniel 6:22). When the king saw how God miraculously protected Daniel, he issued the following decree:

Daniel 6:26
“I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For He is the living God and He endures forever.”

There were many opportunities for Daniel to question his circumstances. He was taken into captivity at a young age, tempted with special treatment, despised by his peers, thrown to the lions, and served an entire lifetime under foreign rulers. But, without a single complaint, Daniel continued to trust God and serve Him without compromise. In the end, Daniel was used to encourage the Jews while in captivity and to draw an entire nation to a greater reverence of God. Shortly after the decree was issued, 50,000 Jews were allowed to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple.

Stories like this are scattered all through God’s Word! Though we may not understand our circumstances or be able to clearly see God’s specific plan, we KNOW the way He is calling us to walk. Let’s continue to serve and trust with all our heart. Let’s walk down His path without turning to the right or to the left. Regardless of our present circumstances, let’s determine once and for all to give Him a lifetime of conviction.

Una Vida de Convicción

Daniel fue uno de los primeros capturados por los Babilonios en el 605 AC. A su llegada a Babilonia, Daniel fue elegido para recibir tres años de entrenamiento especializado (así como comida y bebida especial) para prepararlo para el servicio en el palacio. Este servicio especial habría obligado a Daniel a violar las leyes de Dios, pero Daniel “propuso en su corazón no contaminarse con la porción de la comida del rey, ni con el vino que él bebía” (Daniel 1:8).

Sus convicciones tuvieron un profundo impacto en los que estaban a su alrededor – especialmente en sus tres más cercanos amigos que mas tarde fueron lanzados al horno de fuego por rechazar inclinarse ante una imagen de oro; “…sepas, oh rey, que no serviremos a tus dioses, ni tampoco adoraremos la estatua que has levantado” (Daniel 3:18).

Daniel sirvió setenta años a los reyes de Babilonia y sus convicciones le ganaron el lugar como el más confiable consejero de todo la tierra. Cuando los Persas derrotaron a los Babilonios, el nuevo rey aún pensó “en ponerlo {a Daniel} sobre todo el reino” (Daniel 6:3). Cuando los otros oficiales se pusieron celosos, convencieron al rey de pasar una ley prohibiendo oración por nadie mas que no fuera el rey.

Aún cuando sabía que sería severamente castigado, Daniel se mantuvo en sus convicciones y oró a Dios tres veces al día. Por esta violación de la ley, Daniel fue lanzado al pozo de los leones; pero “Dios envió su ángel, el cual cerró la boca de los leones” (Daniel 6:22). Cuando el rey vio como Dios milagrosamente protegió a Daniel, el emitió el siguiente decreto:

Daniel 6:26
“De parte mía es puesta esta ordenanza: Que en todo el dominio de mi reino todos teman y tiemblen ante la presencia del Dios de Daniel; porque él es el Dios viviente y permanece por todos los siglos.”

Hubo muchas oportunidades para que Daniel cuestionara sus circunstancias. El fue tomado en cautiverio a corta edad, tentado con tratos especiales, despreciado por sus iguales, lanzado al pozo de los leones, y sirvió la vida entera bajo leyes extranjeras. Pero, sin una sola queja, Daniel continuó confiando en Dios y sirviendole sin compromiso. Al final, Daniel fue usado para animar a los Judíos cuando estaban cautivos y para acercar a la nación entera a una mayor reverencia a Dios. Corto tiempo después que el decreto fue emitido a 50,000 Judíos se les permitió regresar a Jerusalén a reconstruir el templo.

Historias como esta están distribuida a todo lo largo de la Palabra de Dios! Quizá no comprendamos nuestras circunstancias o no seamos capaces de ver el plan de Dios, pero si SABEMOS en que dirección nos esta llamando a caminar. Continuemos sirviendo y confiando con todo nuestro corazón. Vallamos por Su camino sin desviarnos a la derecha o a la izquierda. Sin importar nuestras circunstancias presentes, determinemos de una vez y para siempre darle una vida de convicción.

Such a Time As This

Such_a_Time_As_This

When the Persians overthrew the Babylonians and allowed the people of Israel to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple in 538 BC, not all the Israelites chose to leave their new home. A whole generation had been born and raised under Babylonian captivity and many had become content with their life. Therefore many Jewish communities thrived under Persian rule.

When Xerxes was King of this vast empire, he commanded the Queen to be displayed before all the visiting dignitaries at a banquet. But when the Queen refused, Xerxes removed her title and began to search for a replacement. The search resulted in a young Jewish girl named Esther being made Queen – not a normal position for a young Jew!

Meanwhile, a plot had developed to kill the Jews in all the provinces of Persia. Esther’s cousin, Mordecai, knew of this plot and pleaded with Esther to approach the King for help, but Esther was understandably reluctant. She was being very well cared for, and approaching the King without first being invited could lead to death. Mordecai encouraged Esther to view her life as being part of God’s wonderful plan.

Esther 4:14
“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?”

God allowed Esther to become Queen, not as a reward for being good, but “for such a time as this.” God could have used other methods to save the Jews, but He chose to invite a beautiful young woman to play a part. Esther put her personal plans on hold, put her life at risk, persuaded the King, and saved her people from certain destruction.

The wisdom and truth of Mordecai’s words resound through the ages: God’s work WILL be accomplished; His plan WILL unfold; deliverance WILL arise! It’s humbling, and often very freeing, to know that God really doesn’t need us. He is perfectly capable without our help! But it’s also very comforting to know that God is inviting us to join Him in His work and walk by His side to certain victory.

We may never be invited to a role as dramatic as Esther’s, but we can join our Heavenly Father from right where we are today! We have come to our particular position – no matter how elevated, no matter how low – for the purpose of bringing Him glory and honor. Let’s listen carefully for what He’s asking us to do, and understand we are right where we need to be and right where He wants us! He has created us for a purpose. He has brought us to our present situation for such a time as this.

Para Un Momento Como Este

Cuando los Persas vencieron a los Babilonios y permitieron que la gente de Israel regresara a Jerusalén a reconstruir el templo (538 AC), no todos los Israelitas eligieron dejar sus nuevas casas. Una generación completa había nacido y criado bajo la cautividad de los Babilonios y muchos estaban contentos con sus vidas. Entonces muchas comunidades Judías florecieron debajo de El imperio Persico.

Cuando Asuero fue el Rey de este vasto imperio él ordenó a la Reina ser exhibida ante todos los dignatarios visitantes en un banquete. Cuando la Reina se negó, Asuero le quitó su titulo y comenzó a buscar reemplazo. La búsqueda terminó con una joven Judía llamada Ester convertida en Reina – no una posición normal para una joven Judía!

Mientras tanto, se desarrolló un complot para matar a los Judíos en todas las provincias de Persia. Mardoqueo, primo de Ester sabía de este complot y clamaba a Ester para que abordara al Rey y pidiera su ayuda, pero Ester estaba comprensiblemente reacia. Ella estaba muy bien cuidada y acercarse al Rey sin antes ser invitada podría costarle la vida. Mardoqueo animó a Ester a ver su vida como parte del maravilloso plan de Dios.

Ester 4:14
“Si ahora te quedas absolutamente callada, de otra parte vendrán el alivio y la liberación para los judíos, pero tú y la familia de tu padre perecerán. ¡Quién sabe si no has llegado al trono precisamente para un momento como éste!”

Dios permitió que Ester fuera Reina, no como un premio por ser buena, sino “para un momento como éste.” Dios pudo usar otros métodos para salvar a los Judíos, pero El decidió invitar a una hermosa joven mujer a tomar parte. Ester puso su vida en peligro, persuadió al Rey, y salvó a su gente de una segura destrucción.

La sabiduría y verdad de las palabras de Mardoqueo resuenan a través de generaciones: El plan de Dios SERA cumplido, Su plan SERA desarrollado, Su liberación SERA levantado! Es humillante y a menudo muy liberados saber que Dios realmente no nos necesita – El es perfectamente capaz sin nuestra ayuda! Pero es también muy reconfortante saber que Dios nos esta invitando a unirnos a El en Su obra y caminar de Su lado a una victoria segura.

Tal vez nunca seamos invitados a un rol tan dramático como el de Ester, pero debemos unirnos a Nuestro Padre Celestial desde donde estamos ahora! Hemos llegado a nuestra posición particular – no importa que tan alta, no importa que tan baja – para el propósito de dar honor y gloria a Dios. Escuchemos cuidadosamente lo que El esta pidiendo que hagamos y comprendamos que estamos exactamente en donde necesitamos estar y exactamente en donde El nos quiere! El nos ha creado por un propósito. El nos ha traído hasta nuestra situación presente para un momento como este.

Right Where He Wants Us

Right_Where_He_Wants_Us

Joseph was the second youngest son of Jacob and was greatly loved by his father. In fact, his brothers developed a jealous hatred for him because their father “loved Joseph more than any of his other sons” (Genesis 37:3). Their hatred for Joseph continued to grow until they “sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites who took him to Egypt” (Genesis 37:28). Joseph was then sold to Potiphar, the captain of the guard for Pharaoh, and was soon falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife and thrown in jail.

At this point, Joseph could really have felt sorry for himself – things were definitely not going well! Only a short time before, Joseph’s path had seemed well established; his father loved him, he knew where he was going, and his life was filled with joy. Now, locked up and in a foreign land, Joseph’s life seemed to have taken a drastic turn for the worse.

Genesis 39:20-22
“But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; He showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.”

It’s safe to say that all of us, at different times during our walk with the Lord, feel like we have been sent far away and locked up. We feel distanced from God and unable to change our circumstances. Others seem to be controlling our every move and we sink into a deep despair.

But is it possible God is much closer than we think? “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Is it possible He is working (even now!) this terrible situation toward the good? “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28). And is it possible that in the middle of our “prison” God has much work for us to do?

While in jail, Joseph interpreted dreams for Pharaoh’s officials (Genesis 40) and was then called to interpret a dream for Pharaoh; “I’ve heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it” (Genesis 41:15). Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and was placed in a position of great responsibility; “You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders” (Genesis 41:40). It was God’s plan to place Joseph in control of the distribution of food, and therefore, to save many lives…including the lives of his father and brothers (Genesis 42-48).

No matter what this day brings – no matter how trapped we feel – we must keep looking for God’s good and trusting that His plan is unfolding. He is using our circumstances to mold us and draw us close to His side, and He is using our testimony of faith to encourage others to love Him more. We must believe that, even in the middle of our prison, God is in control and we are right where He wants us!

Exactamente Donde nos Quiere

Right_Where_He_Wants_Us

José fue el penúltimo hijo de Jacob y amado de gran manera por su padre. De hecho, sus hermanos habían desarrollado un odio celoso por él por que su padre “amaba a José más que a todos sus hijos” (Génesis 37:3). Su odio por José continuó a crecer hasta que “vendieron a los ismaelitas por veinte piezas de plata. Y estos se llevaron a José a Egipto” (Génesis 37:28). Después, José fue vendido a Potifar, el capitán de la guardia de Faraón, y de pronto fue acusado falsamente por la esposa de Potifar y echado a la cárcel.

En este punto, José pudiera haber sentido una gran lastima por si mismo – las cosas definitivamente no iban muy bien! Solamente un poco antes, el camino de José parecía bien establecido; su padre le amaba, sabía a donde iba, y su vida estaba lleno de gozo. Ahora, encarcelado en una tierra extranjera, la vida de José parece que desvió para mal.

Génesis 39:20-22
“Tomó su amo a José y lo puso en la cárcel, donde estaban los presos del rey; y allí lo mantuvo. Pero Jehová estaba con José y extendió a él su misericordia, pues hizo que se ganara el favor del jefe de la cárcel. El jefe de la cárcel puso en manos de José el cuidado de todos los presos que había en aquella prisión; todo lo que se hacía allí, él lo hacía.”

Creo que es seguro poder decir que cada uno de nosotros, en diferentes tiempos en nuestro camino con el Señor, sentimos que hemos sido enviado muy lejos y encarcelados. Sentimos lejos de Dios e incapaces de cambiar nuestras circunstancias. Otros parecen estar empujando todos los botones hasta que nos hundimos en una desesperación profunda.

¿Pero es posible que Dios esta mas cerca que pensamos? “No te desampararé ni te dejaré” (Hebreos 13:5). ¿Es posible que El esta manejando (aún ahora!) este terrible situación para nuestro bien? “A los que aman a Dios, todas las cosas los ayudan a bien” (Romanos 8:28). ¿Y es posible que en medio de nuestra “prisión”, Dios tiene mucho trabajo para nosotros?

Mientras que estaba en la prisión, José interpretó los sueños para algunos de los oficiales de Faraón (Génesis 40) y después fue llamado par interpretar un sueño para Faraón; “he oído decir de ti que oyes sueños para interpretarlos” (Génesis 41:15). José correctamente descifró su sueño y fue dado un puesto de gran responsabilidad; “Tú estarás sobre mi casa y por tu palabra se gobernará todo mi pueblo” (Génesis 41:40). Fue el plan de Dios para poner a José en control de la distribución de comida, y entonces, poder salvar muchas vidas…incluyendo las vidas de su padre y hermanos (Génesis 42-48).

No importa que trae esta día – no importa que tan atrapado sentimos – tenemos que seguir buscando el bien de Dios y confiando que Su plan esta desarrollando. El esta usando nuestras circunstancias para moldearnos y atraernos a Su lado; y El esta usando nuestro testimonio de fe para motivar a otros a amar a El mas. Si, tenemos que creer que, aún en medio de nuestra prisión, Dios esta en control y estamos exactamente donde nos quiere!

A Defeated Enemy

A_Defeated_Enemy

As we study God’s Word, we should be reminded of how fortunate we are to have so many stories and testimonies upon which to build our faith. This is particularly true of the multitude of Old Testament stories; “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Romans 15:4). One of the great encouragements is shared through a prostitute named Rahab.

As Joshua led the Israelites out of the desert and into the promised land of Canaan, the first enemy they faced lived in the mighty walled city of Jericho. When spies were sent to Jericho to determine the enemy’s strength, Rahab told the spies, “all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you” (Joshua 2:9). Rahab said the people of Jericho had heard how God parted the Red Sea and how He had been with the Israelites in previous battles.

Joshua 2:11
“When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.”

God caused the walls of Jericho to collapse and allowed the Israelites to take the city, but the first enemy in the promised land was conquered long before the Israelite army even arrived. The people of Jericho knew of God’s miraculous power and were already defeated. The only thing necessary for victory was for the Israelites to show they were willing to walk in the strength God provided.

God does not desire for us to remain in the desert. He has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). But in order to enter the promised land, we must be prepared to face our enemies and trust in the strength of our Heavenly Father.

The enemy “prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). This enemy is very real and ready to attack our areas of weakness. But the enemy is also well aware of God’s power and will turn away any time we make a stand; “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The enemy’s fate has been sealed – his end has already been determined – but we must daily resist by getting dressed for battle and then trusting in the power of God for our strength.

Let’s submit our lives into the loving hands of our Heavenly Father and boldly enter the peace-filled land He has promised. The lion will continue to roar and try to bite, but we must never forget that Jesus has already assured complete victory. When we trust Him with all our heart and daily walk in His strength, we truly face a defeated enemy.

Un Enemigo Vencido

Mientras estudiamos la palabra de Dios, deberíamos recordar lo afortunados que somos de tener tantas historias y testimonios sobre los cuales construir nuestra fe. Esto es particularmente cierto de la multitud de historias del Antiguo Testamento; “Porque las cosas que se escribieron antes, para nuestra enseñanza se escribieron, a fin de que por la paciencia y la consolación de las Escrituras, tengamos esperanza” (Romanos 15:4). Una de las mas entusiastas es compartida a través de la prostituta llamada Raab.

Mientras Josué conducía a los Israelitas fuera del desierto hacia la tierra prometida de Canaán, el primer enemigo que enfrentaron vivía en la poderosamente amurallada ciudad de Jericó. Cuando los espías fueron enviados a Jericó para determinar la fuerza del enemigo, Raab les dijo a los espías que “el temor de vosotros ha caído sobre nosotros, y todos los moradores del país ya han desmayado por causa de vosotros” (Josué 2:9). Raab les dijo que la gente de Jericó había escuchado como Dios partió el Mar Rojo y como El había estado con los Israelitas en anteriores batallas.

Josué 2:11
“Oyendo esto, ha desmayado nuestro corazón; ni ha quedado más aliento en hombre alguno por causa de vosotros, porque Jehová vuestro Dios es Dios arriba en los cielos y abajo en la tierra.”

Dios derribó los muros de Jericó y permitió a los Israelitas tomar la ciudad, pero el primer enemigo en la tierra prometida fue conquistado mucho antes que el ejercito israelita arribara. El pueblo de Jericó sabía del poder milagroso de Dios y con eso ya estaban vencidos. La única cosa necesaria para la victoria fue que los Israelitas mostraran su voluntad para caminar en la fuerza que Dios había provisto para ellos.

El deseo de Dios no es que nosotros nos mantengamos en el desierto. El tiene “planes de bienestar y no de calamidad, a fin de darles un futuro y una esperanza” (Jeremías 29:11). Pero a fin de entrar en la tierra prometida, debemos estar preparados para enfrentar a nuestros enemigos y confiar en las fuerzas de nuestro Padre Celestial.

El enemigo “como león rugiente, anda alrededor buscando a quien devorar” (1 Pedro 5:8). Pero el enemigo también sabe del poder de Dios, y va a huir cuando nosotros nos paramos firmes; “resistid al diablo, y huirá de vosotros” (Santiago 4:7). El destino del enemigo ha sido sellado – su fin ya ha sido determinado – pero debemos resistir diariamente, vistiendonos para la batalla y confiando en el poder de Dios.

Sometámonos a nuestro Padre Celestial y decididamente entremos en la tierra llena de paz que El nos ha prometido. El león continuará rugiendo y tratando de morder, pero nunca debemos olvidar que Dios ha asegurado completa victoria. Cuando confiamos en El con todo nuestro corazón y diariamente caminamos en Sus fuerzas, verdaderamente nos enfrentamos a un enemigo vencido.
