Last January our twelve year old daughter was diagnosed with an advanced stage of ovarian cancer. The next few months were a blur of doctor visits, surgeries, chemotherapy, and lots of…closeness. I’m not yet able to be thankful for our season of cancer treatment, but now, a full year after the end of treatment, I can say I have never been so close to any of my kids as I was with my daughter during this time. If you were not following this story last year, I encourage you to look at the series of messages at:
http://gdwm.org/index.php/category/kaylee-cancer/
When you read these messages you will see the standard pictures of hospital beds and baldness. You will also see several pictures of recovery and victory. Our daughter, now fourteen, has changed her diet, began to run, and recently completed her first 5K race with her mom. We returned to the hospital on May 19th for her every-three-month tests and she continues to show no sign of cancer! I still get anxious before and during these tests but God continues to do an amazing work in the lives of each member of our family.
We have been blessed with great prayer support as well as terrific hospital support. I have made the commitment to try and give back by doing two fundraising efforts each year. One is a marathon for St. Jude Research Hospital in December, and the other is a bike ride in support of the American Cancer Society in late July.
The Ohio Bike Ride is 328 miles from Cleveland to Cincinnati in 4 days. I am riding for the American Cancer Society because I believe that research efforts are helping. Yes, I wish there was more research devoted to the effects of nutrition, but I still firmly support fighting this monster from every possible angle.
I have already lost my mother and sister to cancer. We all need to join in this fight. Please consider supporting this ride with a donation to the American Cancer Society at:

The journey continues!!
