As Jesus watched people place their offering into the temple treasury, He noticed a poor widow who put in two coins valued at less than a penny.

Mark 12:43-44
“Calling His disciples to Him, Jesus said, ‘I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on.'”

This passage gives us a wonderful example of faith and how God must be the Lord of our finances, but the real message actually goes much deeper.

We have all been blessed in so many ways, and we are called to be good stewards, or managers, of all our blessings. As a good steward, we must present all we possess back to our Heavenly Father as an offering of love. Yes, this relates to our financial resources, but it also means we are to offer our gifts, abilities, talents, and time back to God through service and ministry to others. God created us (the complete package of who we are) for a purpose. And though we may need to spend good quality time with God to fully understand our purpose, we can be absolutely sure that God has NOT blessed us so we can advance our own selfish agenda!

Every one of our blessings, no matter how small, are given so we can bless God in return. We often hold back from ministry opportunities because we feel our “offering” is insignificant. We feel inadequate to serve or unworthy to make a true contribution to the work of God’s Kingdom, but God is never concerned with the magnitude of a gift. He is, and always has been, concerned and blessed by the condition of our heart: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22). How we give is much more important than what we give.

God does not need our money, time, ability, or anything we accomplish or produce. But He loves us dearly and desires to receive the complete love and devotion which is given with our offering. Jesus was blessed by a widow who gave from her heart, even though the actual gift carried very little earthly value.

If we want our service or ministry to have significance in the eyes of God, we must focus on the One to whom we are giving rather than on the value of the gift in the eyes of man. With our eyes focused, we must then give with all the love in our heart. If our heart is pure in the giving, God will receive our offering as a true blessing. There are no worthless or insignificant gifts when the gift is given from a pure heart.

Un Corazón Puro

Mientras Jesús miraba a la gente depositando sus ofrendas en el tesoro del templo, se dió cuenta de una pobre viuda quien puso dos monedas que valoraban menos de un centavo.

Marcos 12:43-44
“Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo: ‘Les aseguro que esta viuda pobre ha echado en el tesoro más que todos los demás. Éstos dieron de lo que les sobraba; pero ella, de su pobreza, echó todo lo que tenía, todo su sustento.'”

Este pasaje nos da un ejemplo maravilloso de la fe y como Dios tiene que ser Señor de nuestras finanzas – pero el mensaje es mucho más profundo.

Todos hemos sido bendecido en muchas maneras. Todos hemos sido llamados a ser buenos mayordomos, o administradores, de todas nuestras bendiciones. Y como buen mayordomo, tenemos que presentar o devolver todo a Nuestro Padre Celestial como una ofrenda de amor. Esto tiene relación con nuestros recursos financieros; pero también significa que debemos ofrecer nuestros dones, habilidades, talentos, y tiempo a Dios a través del ministerio y servicio a otros. Dios nos creó (el paquete completo de quienes somos) con un propósito. Tendremos que pasar un buen tiempo con Dios para determinar nuestro propósito, pero podemos estar absolutamente seguros que Dios NO nos ha bendecido para que pudiéramos avanzar con nuestra propia agenda egoísta!

Cada una de nuestras bendiciones, sin importar que tan pequeñas, son dadas para que podamos bendicir a Dios de regreso. Frecuentemente nos detenemos de involucrarnos en oportunidades de ministerio por que sentimos que nuestra “ofrenda” es insignificante – nos sentimos inadecuados para servir o que no merecemos contribuir verdaderamente al trabajo del Reino de Dios. Pero Dios nunca esta interesado en la magnitud de un regalo – El es, y siempre ha estado, interesado en y bendecido por la condición de nuestro corazón: “¿Qué le agrada más al Señor: que se le ofrezcan holocaustos y sacrificios, o que se obedezca lo que él dice? El obedecer vale más que el sacrificio, y el prestar atención, más que la grasa de carneros” (1 Samuel 15:22). Cómo damos es mucho más importante de lo que damos.

Dios no necesita nuestro dinero ni necesita cualquier cosa que cumplimos o producimos. Pero El nos ama y desea recibir un amor y devoción completa que se da con nuestras ofrendas. Jesús fue bendecido por una viuda que dió de su corazón, aunque la ofrenda en si tenía poco valor terrenal.

Si queremos que nuestro servicio o ministerio tenga significado en los ojos de Dios, tenemos que enfocarnos en El a quien estamos dando en vez de enfocar en el valor delante de los ojos del hombre. Con nuestros ojos enfocados, tenemos que dar con todo el amor que hay en nuestro corazón. Si ofrecemos con un corazón puro, Dios recibirá nuestra ofrenda como una bendición verdadera. No existe las ofrendas sin valor o insignificantes cuando se dan de un corazón puro.

Surrender And Live

Surrender_And_Live

Jeremiah warned the people of Jerusalem for many years that they must repent or be destroyed. He often warned with direct words from God: “I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways” (Jeremiah 18:11). It’s hard to imagine a more direct warning.

But the people of Jerusalem ignored God’s warning and failed to repent. And once the attacks on Jerusalem began, the promised destruction would not be stopped; “I will hand all Judah over to the king of Babylon, who will carry them away to Babylon or put them to the sword” (Jeremiah 20:4).

The righteousness of God requires that sinful hearts be punished. But the mercy of God always provides a path for those who place their trust in Him. This path may contain some painful consequences, but as we continue to trust, it will always lead us closer to His side. Jerusalem would be destroyed, but God provided one final opportunity for His chosen people to live.

Jeremiah 21:8-9
“I am setting before you the way of life and the way of death. Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague. But whoever goes out and surrenders to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; he will escape with his life.”

The people of Jerusalem felt secure in their city. They had weapons, strong walls, and a location which was hard to attack. Their worldly nature told them to remain in the safety of their “created” security, but God said the only way to survive was to trust Him and surrender.

Jesus used similar words when teaching the disciples; “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will find it” (Matthew 16:25).

Though we are trusting in the sacrifice of Jesus for our eternal forgiveness, are we living in complete surrender for our daily walk? Have we lost our life, in the sense of our control, agenda, and even our dreams, for the sake of our faith? Our flesh wants to place trust in what we can touch and feel – in what we can create and control – but Jesus says the only way to truly live is to surrender ALL into His hands. His promise is that if we release all we think we hold, we will find a life more abundant and fulfilling than any we could imagine!

We may not understand how all this works, but the truth remains and the truth will set us free! (John 8:32). God has a wonderful plan for our life – a plan which will bring fulfillment and peace – but it’s a plan which requires surrender; and often this surrender will require us to trust Him in an area filled with great uncertainty and fear. Let’s begin today to place EVERYTHING in the loving control of His hands. Let’s begin a new life as we completely surrender and live!

Rendir y Vivir

Jeremías advirtió a la gente en Jerusalén por muchos años que deberían arrepentirse o serían destruídos. El con frecuencia les advirtió con las palabras que venían directamente de Dios: “Estoy preparando una calamidad contra ustedes, y elaborando un plan en su contra. ¡Vuélvanse ya de su mal camino!” (Jeremías 18:11). Es difícil imaginar una advertencia más directa.

Pero la gente de Jerusalén se burlaban de la advertencia de Dios y no se arrepintieron. Y al comenzar los ataques en contra de Jerusalén, la promesa de destrucción no se podía detener; “Entregaré a todo Judá en manos del rey de Babilonia, el cual los deportará a Babilonia o los matará a filo de espada” (Jeremías 20:4).

La rectitud de Dios requiere que los corazones pecaminosos sean castigados. Pero la misericordia de Dios siempre provee un camino seguro para aquellos que confían en El. Este camino podría contener algunas consecuencias dolorosas; pero en la manera que continuamos a confiar, siempre nos guiará más cerca a Su lado. Jerusalén sería destruido, pero Dios proveyó una oportunidad final para que Su pueblo escogido pudiera vivir.

Jeremías 21:8-9
“Pongo delante de ustedes el camino de la vida y el camino de la muerte. El que se quede en esta ciudad morirá por la espada y la peste, o de hambre. Pero el que salga y se rinda a los caldeos que los están sitiando, vivirá. Así salvará su vida.”

La gente en Jerusalén se sintieron seguros en su ciudad. Tenían armas, muros fuertes, y una localidad que era difícil de atacar. Su naturaleza mundana les dijo que permaneciera en su seguridad “creada” – pero Dios les dijo que la única manera de sobrevivir era confiar en El y rendirse.

Jesús usó palabras similares cuando estaba enseñando a los discípulos; “Porque el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por mi causa, la encontrará” (Mateo 16:25).

Aunque decimos que creemos, ¿hemos llegado al lugar de rendimiento completo? ¿Hemos perdido nuestra vida, en el sentido de nuestro control, agenda, y aún sueños, por el caso de nuestra fe en Jesús? Nuestra carne quiere confiar en las cosas que podemos tocar y sentir – en lo que podemos crear y controlar – pero Jesús dice que la única manera de vivir verdaderamente es rendirse TODO a Sus manos. Su promesa es que si nosotros nos soltamos de todo lo que pensamos que controlamos, encontraremos una vida mas abundante y realizada de lo que podríamos imaginar!

Es muy probable que no entendamos como funciona todo esto, pero la verdad permanece y la verdad nos hará libres (Juan 8:32)! Dios tiene un plan maravilloso para nuestras vidas – un plan que traerá realización y paz – pero es un plan que requiere rendirse; y con frecuencia este rendimiento requiere que confiamos en El en las areas llenas de incertidumbre y temor. Empecemos hoy a poner TODO bajo el control amoroso de Sus manos. ¡Empecemos una vida nueva mientras que nos rendimos y vivimos!

Resolve To Be Transformed

Every year I begin with this message related to goals and resolutions. I’m always surprised at the number of people who speak ill about making resolutions. The discussion is usually focused on how resolutions always fail. Many say that it seems wrong, or at least unwise, to set goals when you are just being set up for failure. While I agree that making resolutions carries a risk of perceived failure, I would also make the case that attempting some resolutions can be a grand adventure; and some resolutions may actually be accomplished.

But there is a type of resolution which carries much more significance than running or any other physical goal, definitive things we can do which have eternal significance. Jesus said it well as He admonished the Pharisees: “You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. First clean the inside…and then the outside also will be clean” (Matthew 23:25-26). Most of us make resolutions which are focused in some way on the external, things like exercise or diet. Few resolve to make the more important changes.

The Bible speaks about the initial transformation which occurs when we become a “new creation” in Christ. We call this initial transformation Salvation, and it is ALL by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). But the Bible also speaks about the on-going transformation as we draw closer to God and achieve the peace and contentment found only in His presence. This is a process called sanctification.

Romans 12:2
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Bible reading would make a great resolution for 2017. If you began a plan last year but did not finish, please do not be discouraged. Rather, consider what you accomplished and simply continue. It really makes no difference if you finish the Bible in one year or in two or three. But a habit of reading and studying God’s Word can make a lasting transformation in our life.

So on our list of things to do differently this year – our list of resolutions – I pray we include more time with God in prayer, more time in His Word, more time loving Him with ALL our heart, seeking His presence, and earnestly desiring to know, and do, His will. Let our prayer for one another be that we draw ever closer to our Heavenly Father and experience His love new and fresh every day. In this new year, let’s make eternal resolutions as we resolve to be transformed!

Determinamos Ser Transformados

¿Que haremos diferente este año? Durante la primera semana de Enero, habrán mas dietas comenzadas y mas intentos de varias formas de “auto-mejoramiento” que durante cualquier otro tiempo del año. Yo confieso que he tomado una resolución de correr mil millas este año. También confieso que no he comenzado muy bien – solamente he corrido dos millas en las primeras cinco dias, pero los mantendré informados.

Sin importar cuando se lea este mensaje, hoy es el principio de un año nuevo. La mayoría de resoluciones con buenas intenciones pronto estarán olvidadas, pero algunas harán cambios permanentes para mejorar. Si le requiere un compromiso de una resolución del Año Nuevo para liberarse de un habito malo, restaurar una relación destruida o mejorar su salud, entonces de cualquier manera haga la resolución!

Pero durante este tiempo cuando casi irresistiblemente reflejamos para atrás y miramos hacia adelante, enfoquemos unos de nuestros esfuerzos en hacer cambios con importancia eterna. Jesús dijo bien cuando les regañó a los fariseos: “Limpian el exterior del vaso y del plato, pero por dentro están llenos de robo y de desenfreno. ¡Fariseo ciego! Limpia primero por dentro el vaso y el plato, y así quedará limpio también por fuera” (Mateo 23:25-26).

La Biblia habla acerca de la transformación inicial que ocurre cuando llegamos a ser “nueva creación” en Cristo. Pero también habla acerca de la transformación continua mientras nos acercamos a Dios y logramos tener paz y contentamiento encontrada solamente en Su presencia.

Romanos 12:2
“No se amolden al mundo actual, sino sean transformados mediante la renovación de su mente. Así podrán comprobar cuál es la voluntad de Dios, buena, agradable y perfecta.”

La renovación de nuestra mente es un cambio interno donde nos estamos “conformados a la imagen de Su Hijo” (Romanos 8:29). Es un proceso de cambiar nuestros pensamientos, prioridades, y metas para estar alineados con aquellos de Cristo; “La actitud de ustedes debe ser como la de Cristo Jesús” (Filipenses 2:5). La mente de Cristo era pura, enfocada en el Padre, y determinada a hacer Su voluntad: “Mi alimento es hacer la voluntad del que me envió y terminar su obra” (Juan 4:34).

En nuestra lista de cosas por diferente por hacer en este año nuevo, Yo oro que incluyamos mas tiempo con Dios en oración, mas tiempo en Su Palabra, mas tiempo amandole a El con TODO nuestro corazón, buscando Su presencia, y honestamente deseando conocer, y hacer, Su voluntad. Que nuestra oración el uno por el otro sea que nos acerquemos mas que nunca a nuestro Padre Celestial y experimentemos Su amor nuevamente cada día. En este año nuevo, hagamos resoluciones eternas mientras determinamos ser transformados!

Off The Throne

After the birth of Jesus, Magi (wise men) came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2). When King Herod heard about this he became greatly disturbed. Herod had been appointed King of the Jews by the Roman government, but he was only partially Jewish and not well accepted by the people.

King Herod knew of the Jewish scriptures and how the people were waiting for the Messiah; “The government will be on His shoulders” (Isaiah 9:6). He heard the words of the prophet which told where the new ruler would be born; “Out of you {Bethlehem} will come for Me one who will be ruler over Israel” (Micah 5:2). Herod viewed the news of this new ruler as a great threat. How would this affect his right to be king? Would he lose power? prestige? control? …comfort!? The potential harm was unbearable so Herod decided to take action.

Matthew 2:16
“He gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under.”

Many people today are not much different than Herod. Even when they recognize Jesus and clearly see their need, they fear losing the ability to direct their own path. They may not actually take steps to destroy Christ, but the thought of releasing control seems unbearable. Somehow, they’ve been taught that submission equates to failure. But the reality is that true “success” is only found in Christ, and true comfort is only obtained by being set free from the power of sin and the entanglement of this world.

Jesus was, and always will be, very threatening to those who insist on sitting on a throne. It’s foolishness to think Jesus will accept the position of Co-King. Those who attempt to enter a relationship with Jesus while trying to maintain their “right to rule” will never really know Him, and certainly never experience His peace.

Jesus will give Himself to “whoever believes in Him” (John 3:13). But in return, He asks for our total devotion: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). We give Him proper worship – the worship He deserves – only as we submit and exalt Him above all else; “He must become greater, I must become less” (John 3:30).

As we begin this new year, let’s ensure our relationship with Jesus is aligned with God’s plan. He is the rightful Ruler and King – the Savior and Lord! Let’s trust and worship Him with all our heart, and refuse to be threatened by His right to lead. Let’s decide once and for all to relinquish control and get our pride-filled self off the throne.

Bajemonos del Trono

Después del nacimiento de Jesús, llegaron tres magos a Jerusalén y preguntaron, “¿Dónde está el rey de los judíos, que ha nacido?” (Mateo 2:2). Cuando el Rey Herodes oyó esto se puso muy turbado. Herodes había sido nombrado Rey de los Judíos por el gobierno Romano; pero solamente era parcialmente Judío y no fue muy bien aceptado por la gente.

El Rey Herodes sabía de las escrituras Judías y como la gente estaba esperando un mesías; “y el principado sobre su hombro” (Isaías 9:6). El había oído las palabras del profeta quien contó donde iba a nacer el nuevo líder; “Pero tú, Belén Efrata, pequeña para estar entre las familias de Judá, de ti me saldrá el que será Señor en Israel” (Miqueas 5:2). Herodes vió las noticias de este líder nuevo como una gran amenaza. ¿Como afectaría esto su derecho de ser rey? ¿Perderá poder? prestigio? control?…comodidad!?

No podía soportar el dolor potencial y por eso decidió tomar acción.

Mateo 2:16
“Mandó matar a todos los niños menores de dos años que había en Belén y en todos sus alrededores.”

Muchas personas ahora no son tan diferentes que Herodes. Aún cuando reconocemos a Jesús y vemos claramente nuestra necesidad, tememos la perdida de nuestra habilidad de dirigir nuestro propio camino – a controlar nuestro propio destino. Quiza no tomemos paso para destruir a Cristo, pero el solo pensar de rendir control completo a Cristo parece insoportable. De alguna manera, hemos sido enseñado que la sumisión equivale al fracaso y comodidad reducida; pero la realidad es que el “exito” verdadero solamente se encuentra en Cristo, y comodidad verdadera solamente se obtiene a través de ser liberado del poder del pecado y las distracciones de este mundo.

Jesús era – y siempre será – una gran amenaza a aquellos que insisten en sentarse en un trono. Aquellos que intentan entrar a una relación con Jesús mientras sigan tratando de mantener su “derecho a gobernar” nunca lo conocerán verdaderamente, y ciertamente nunca experimentarán Su paz.

Jesús se dará a Si mismo a “todo el que cree en él” (Juan 3:16). Pero en cambio, El espera nuestra devoción total: “Y amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas” (Marcos 12:30). A El le damos alabanzas apropiadas – alabanzas que El merece – solamente de la manera que nos sometemos y le exaltamos encima de todo lo demas; “Es necesario que él crezca, pero que yo mengüe” (Juan 3:30).

Mientras celebramos el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador, aseguremonos que nuestra relación con El está en linea con el plan de Dios. El es el legítimo Lider y Rey – el Salvador y Señor! Confiemos en El y alabemosle a El con todo nuestro corazón y neguemos el ser amenazados por Su derecho de dirigir. Decidamos una vez y por siempre a renunciar el control y bajemos nuestro ser orgulloso del trono.

The Last Unopened Gift

Did you see it? You may have missed it…but it was there. Don’t feel bad; most people overlook this one, but there is still time. Today, before the new year gets here, before all the decorations are put away, before all the other gifts are set aside, open it!

Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The gift of God. Why do so many people miss His gift? One reason might be the rather ordinary wrapping; “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him” (Isaiah 53:2). And you can’t get less majestic than the way He was born; “He made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness” (Philippians 2:7). Yes, such a great gift in such common wrapping could easily be missed. But perhaps there is something else, something in the very makeup of our nature which keeps us from opening His gift.

A prince does not have a problem accepting a gift meant for a prince. And a common person does not have a problem accepting a gift which is common. But a common person can be quite uncomfortable accepting a gift meant for a prince. We know what is inside the gift – eternal life! A gift meant for a prince. And deep down we know we are so very common, so unworthy! This gift is too great, too much above what we feel we deserve. This gift makes us feel uncomfortable: “If we accept the gift will we then feel a debt? How could we ever repay such a debt? Maybe it’s best to ignore it and just leave it wrapped under the tree.”

I suppose we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves. This is a natural reaction to such a gift. Ever since the gift was first made available, people have felt unworthy and refused to open or even give it much notice. They would rather try to somehow work and feel deserving; “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). The gift cannot be earned, and working does not make us more deserving.

Jesus Christ came in ordinary wrapping. He died for the forgiveness of our sin. Why? So we could be given the greatest gift of all, the gift of eternal life! Let’s not let another day go by without receiving His gift. Sure we might feel uncomfortable. Sure we might feel a debt we can never repay. But His gift is given in love and is worth it all. Let’s honestly examine what is keeping us away. Let’s humbly recognize our need; and in the quiet of our heart, let’s be sure to receive the last unopened gift.

Day of Remembrance

Day_of_Remembrance

There are only a few more days to go! Only a few more days until…until what? Why is December 25th so special? What really is this day we call Christmas?

The early church did not give much thought to the birth of Jesus. Of the four Gospels only Matthew and Luke even mention His birth, and these accounts are relatively brief. Certainly, the emphasis of the Gospels was on Jesus’ ministry, death, and resurrection. And after Jesus ascended to Heaven, the focus of the church was on living for Him, sending out His message, and waiting for His return.

No one is really sure when Jesus was born. The first recorded celebration didn’t occur until 200 years after His birth, and it wasn’t until the year 330 that the birth of Christ was assigned to December 25th. Some say Jesus was actually born in September or October and others are sure He was born in March or April; in fact, a case has been made for His birth in each of the twelve months! But it is generally agreed that, due to the relatively colder weather, December was an unlikely time for the birth of our Savior, at least as it is recorded in the Bible. So what really is Christmas?

John 1:1,14
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”

The very Word of God became flesh! Though it is difficult to understand, the Word of God came to live among us and began life as a little baby. He “made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant” (Philippians 2:7). This sacrifice of transformation represents a whole lot of love!

Christmas is a day to remember the most profound event in the history of the world. On that first Christmas (whenever it was), God came to earth to live among us! He was born into the most humble circumstances, grew and taught us His truths, died on a cross for our sin, and was raised, all so we might live with Him for eternity.

December 25th is a day to celebrate with quiet reflection, as Mary “treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). It is also a day to celebrate with great rejoicing, as the shepherds “returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen” (Luke 2:20). The world has tried to remove Christ and insert many activities into this season which do not glorify God, but this need not hinder our worship. We have the ability to turn away the evil and embrace that which is honoring and good.

We can (and should) glorify God and celebrate the gift of our Savior every day throughout the year. But let’s take the opportunity to make this season, and this specific day, special. Let’s celebrate with a focused and thankful heart, and make December 25th a blessed day of remembrance.

Día de Conmemoración

Falta ahora pocos días hasta el 25 de Diciembre – solamente unos pocos días hasta – ¿hasta que? ¿Que es exactamente el 25 de Diciembre? ¿Que es este día que llamamos Navidad?

La iglesia primitiva no pensó mucho del nacimiento de Jesús. De los cuatro evangelios solamente Mateo y Lucas hacen mención de Su nacimiento, y estos relatos son relativamente breves. Ciertamente, el énfasis de los Evangelios fue acerca del ministerio, muerte, y resurrección de Jesús. Y después que Jesús ascendió al Cielo, el enfoque de la iglesia fue el vivir por El y esperar por Su retorno.

Nadie esta realmente seguro de cuando nació Jesús. La primera celebración que fue anotada no ocurrió hasta 200 años después de Su nacimiento, y no fue hasta 330 D.C. que el nacimiento de Cristo fue “asignado” al 25 de Diciembre. Algunos dicen que Jesús actualmente nació en Septiembre u Octubre y otros estan seguros que nació en Marzo o Abril (de hecho, se han defendido argumentos por Su nacimiento en cada uno de los doce meses). Pero el acuerdo general es que, debido al clima relativamente frío, Diciembre es un tiempo muy improbable para el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador. ¿Entonces, que es realmente este día que llamamos Navidad?

Juan 1:1,14
“En el principio ya existía el Verbo, y el Verbo estaba con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios. Y el Verbo se hizo hombre y habitó entre nosotros.”

Estos versículos se refieren a Jesucristo como el “Verbo”, quien era con Dios en el principio y al mismo tiempo era Dios también, y quien dejó Su hogar Celestial para comenzar una vida con nosotros como un bebé pequeño. El 25 de Diciembre es un día para que recordemos el evento mas profundo de la historia del mundo. En esa primera noche de Navidad (en cualquier fecha que era), Dios vino a la tierra en forma de un bebé. El nació en las circunstancias más humildes, creció y nos enseñó Sus verdades, murió en una cruz por nuestros pecados, y resucitó para estar con El Padre – todo para que pudiéramos vivir con El por la eternidad.

El 25 de Diciembre es un día para celebrar con una reflexión en quietud: como María “guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón y meditaba acerca de ellas” (Lucas 2:19). Es también un día para celebrar con gran alegría: como los pastores “regresaron glorificando y alabando a Dios por lo que habían visto y oído” (Lucas 2:20). El mundo ha intentado remover a Cristo e insertar muchas actividades a esta temporada. Pero este no debe obstaculizar nuestra adoración de Dios. Nosotros tenemos la habilidad de rechazar lo malo y abrazar lo que es honroso y bueno.

Podemos (y debemos) celebrar el regalo de nuestro Salvador cada día durante todo el año, pero tomemos la oportunidad de hacer esta temporada y este día especial. Celebremos con corazones enfocados y agradecidos y hagamos del 25 de Diciembre un día de conmemoración.
