There are many exciting opportunities occurring with our ministry in Kenya. In this note I want to highlight two and ask for your help.
Most of you know that we operate a preschool in a very poor area outside of Nairobi called Mathare. For the past several years God’s Daily Word Children’s Center has ministered into this community by teaching and feeding up to 70 children, teaching them about the love of Christ and preparing them to enter the school system. We have also placed a large focus on ministering to the parents of the children through visitation, prayer, and counsel. We are seeing many lives changed for the glory of God.
This weekend, beginning today, we are conducting a family conference which will teach the biblical truths about the family and parenting. The parents of the children from our school will be attending as will many more parents from the community. We plan to also give out food bags to those who attend the entire conference. These food bags will contain over a week’s worth of supplies and will be a wonderful blessing for these struggling parents. Please assist with the purchase of these food bags as you are able.
The other incredible opportunity is that we are attempting to purchase a permanent facility in this community. For the last few years we have been renting a facility and have been quite blessed with the space and cost of rent. However, we have been praying for over a year that God would allow us to establish a more permanent presence so families could see that we will be around for a long time. Several months ago a building right across the road from our current location came up for sale. This building was previously used as a school so it is already set up with classrooms. It would provide a little more space and allow us to operate without concern of being closed down by a landlord. The total cost for the facility is $22,000.00. We have half of the funds from donations received in December but we will need to raise the rest in order to make the purchase.
