In the message “Patiently Trust His Timing” we considered Abraham and Sarah as they waited for God’s promise through the birth of Isaac. Waiting for God’s direction and blessing can be a great test of our faith, but waiting on God for our rescue can be an even greater challenge.

There are three great storms detailed in the New Testament. The first occurred when Jesus was crossing the Sea of Galilee with His disciples. Jesus was asleep when the storm began, and the disciples became afraid and woke Him: “Lord save us! We’re going to drown!” (Matthew 8:25). Jesus rebuked the disciples for their fear and proceeded to calm the storm; “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” (Matthew 8:26).

The second storm occurred immediately after the miraculous feeding of over five thousand people. This time, Jesus sent the disciples across the sea by themselves. When the storm rose up, Jesus went out to meet them…walking on the water. As Jesus again calmed the storm, He spoke the same message against fear; “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew 14:27).

The last storm occurred about thirty years after Jesus was crucified. Paul had proclaimed the gospel through much of the Roman empire and was being transported by boat to stand trial in Rome. A storm arose which blew the ship terribly off course. The ship was battered and tossed for several days; “We finally gave up all hope of being saved” (Acts 27:20).

It must have been difficult to trust God’s timing as the storm continued through the many long days and sleepless nights. But as hope was fading away, God sent an angel to Paul with a familiar message.

Acts 27:23-24
“Last night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid.'”

There may be times when our ability to trust is severely tested. But our faith in God – in His ability to hold us secure – must be independent of the force of the wind. Though the winds may blow, we remain in His hands and must not fear; “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, but even if He does not…” (Daniel 3:17-18).

Most storms last longer than we prefer. But our Heavenly Father is leading us to the place where we can have peace, contentment, and even joy, whether the sun is shining or the storm is raging. He is calling us to be free of fear, calling us to trust Him more and experience His calm within the storm.

Su Calma En La Tormenta

En el mensaje “Confiar Pacientemente En Su Tiempo” consideramos a Abram y Sara mientras ellos esperaban por la promesa de Dios a través del nacimiento de Isaac. Esperar por la dirección y bendición de Dios puede ser una gran prueba para nuestra fe, pero esperar que Dios nos rescate puede ser un reto aún mayor.

Hay tres grandes tormentas detalladas en el Nuevo Testamento. La primera ocurrió cuando Jesús estaba cruzando el mar de Galilea con Sus discípulos. Jesús estaba dormido cuando la tormenta comenzó, y los discípulos se atemorizaron y lo despertaron: “Señor, sálvanos, que perecemos” (Mateo 8:25). Jesús reprendió a los discípulos por su temor y procedió a calmar la tormenta; “Por que teméis?, hombres de poca fe” (Mateo 8:26).

La segunda tormenta ocurrió inmediatamente después del milagro de alimentar a cinco mil personas. Esta vez, Jesús envió a los discípulos a cruzar el mar solos; y cuando se levantó la tormenta, Jesús les encontró – caminando sobre el agua. Mientras que Jesús calmó la tormenta, habló el mismo mensaje en contra del temor; “¡Cálmense! Soy yo. No tengan miedo” (Mateo 14:27).

La última tormenta ocurrió unos treinta años después que Jesús fue crucificado. Pablo había proclamado el evangelio a través de gran parte del imperio Romano y fue transportado en bote para presentarse en la corte en Roma. Se levantó una tormenta que sacó el bote de su curso. El barco fue removido y maltratado por varios días: “ya habíamos perdido toda esperanza de salvarnos” (Hechos 27:20).

Debe haber sido difícil confiar en el tiempo de Dios mientras la tormenta aumentaba a través de las muchas y largas noches sin dormir. Pero mientras la esperanza se desvanecía, Dios envió un ángel a Pablo con un mensaje familiar.

Hechos 27:23-24
“Esta noche ha estado conmigo el ángel de Dios de quien soy y a quien sirvo, diciendo: Pablo, no temas.”

Habrán muchos momentos en que nuestra habilidad para confiar es probada severamente. Pero nuestra fe en Dios – en Su habilidad para mantenernos seguros – debe ser independiente de la fuerza del viento. Aún cuando los vientos puedan soplar, nos mantenemos en Sus manos y no debemos temer; “He aquí nuestro Dios a quien servimos puede librarnos del horno de fuego ardiendo; y de tu mano, oh rey, nos librará. Y si no, sepas, oh rey, que no serviremos a tus dioses” (Daniel 3:17-18).

La mayoría de las tormentas duran mas tiempo del que quisiéramos, pero nuestro Padre Celestial está guiándonos a un lugar en que podemos tener paz, contentamiento, y aún gozo, así, el sol este brillando o la tormenta bramando. El nos llama a estar libres de temor; llamándonos a confiar en El más y experimentar Su calma en la tormenta.

Patiently Trust His Timing

God’s direction and timing is always perfect and always with a purpose – but it is often with a purpose we may not initially see or understand. Even when we earnestly ask for direction through prayer and the study of His Word, God’s answers are usually not what we expect and are often perceived as slow in arriving. However, His direction and timing still remains, always perfect and always with a purpose.

God called Abraham to follow Him when Abraham was already seventy-five years old. Though advanced in years, God blessed Abraham with great abundance and soon promised he would have many descendants; “I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted” (Genesis 13:16).

Although this was a wonderful promise from God, it certainly did not seem possible. Not only was Abraham an old man, but his wife, Sarah, had never been able to have children and was now long past the normal child bearing years. Therefore, when Sarah failed to become pregnant – when God’s promise was apparently going to be unfulfilled – she formulated a plan to “help” God.

Genesis 16:2
“The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her.”

Since this was an accepted practice and seemed like a reasonable way to fulfill God’s promise, Abraham agreed. Not surprisingly, great tension soon developed between Sarah and her maidservant. This tension increased when Ishmael was born and even continues today with the unfortunate hostilities we see in the region of the Middle East. Abraham clearly heard the call and promise of God, but he became impatient with God’s timing and resorted to a worldly solution.

It was another thirteen years before God fulfilled His promise through the birth of Isaac. These were thirteen long years of waiting and wondering if God had forgotten…but God’s direction and timing is always perfect and always with a purpose. With Abraham one hundred years old and Sarah ninety, the birth of Isaac left no doubt that God was in complete control and guiding the events in Abraham’s life.

In a very real sense, we are foreigners in this place and time; “Aliens and strangers on earth” (Hebrews 11:13). We will never understand how all the pieces fit together until we stand before the Creator of the Universe. Until then, we must continue to love and worship Him with all our heart. We must continue to seek His face and ask His guidance for every step. We must continue to follow His direction and patiently trust His timing.

Confía Pacientemente En Su Tiempo

La dirección y tiempo de Dios es siempre perfecta y siempre con un propósito – pero a menudo es un propósito que inicialmente podemos no ver o entender. Aún cuando seriamente pedimos dirección en oración y a través del estudio de Su Palabra, las respuestas de Dios usualmente no son lo que esperábamos y con frecuencia son percibidas como lentas para llegar. Pero Su dirección y tiempo aún permanece, siempre perfecta y siempre con un propósito.

Dios llamó a Abram a seguirlo cuando tenia setenta y cinco años. Pero Dios bendijo a Abram con gran abundancia y pronto le prometió que tendría muchos descendientes; “Y haré tu descendencia como el polvo de la tierra; que si alguno puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también tu descendencia será contada” (Génesis 13:16).

Aún cuando esta era una maravillosa promesa de Dios, ciertamente no parecía ser posible. No solo Abram era un hombre viejo, sino que su esposa, Sara, nunca pudo tener hijos y ahora tenia muchos años más del rango de edad normal para ser madre. Por eso, cuando Sara no pudo quedar embarazada – cuando parecía que la promesa de Dios no sería cumplida – ella formuló un plan para “ayudar” a Dios.

Génesis 16:2
“Ya ves que Jehová me ha hecho estéril; te ruego, pues, que te llegues a mi sierva; quizá tender hijos de ella.”

Puesto que esta era una practica aceptada y esta parecía una forma razonable de cumplir la promesa de Dios, Abram aceptó. Como es de esperarse, una gran tensión fue desarrollada pronto entre Sara y su sierva. Esta tensión se incrementó cuando Ismael nació y aún continua ahora con la inafortunada hostilidad que vemos ahora en la región del medio oriente. Abram claramente escuchó el llamado y la promesa de Dios, pero perdió la paciencia hacia el tiempo de Dios y tomó el recurso de una solución mundana.

Esto sucedió trece años antes que Dios cumpliera Su promesa por medio del nacimiento de Isaac. Fueron trece largos años de espera, preguntándose si Dios se había olvidado…pero la dirección de Dios y Su tiempo es siempre perfecto y siempre con un propósito. Con Abram de cien años y Sara de noventa, el nacimiento de Isaac no dejó duda que Dios estaba en completo control y guiando los eventos de la vida de Abram.

En un sentido muy realista, somos extranjeros en este tiempo y lugar; “extranjeros y peregrinos sobre la tierra” (Hebreos 11:13). Nunca entenderemos como todas las piezas encajan hasta que estemos frente al Creador del Universo. Hasta entonces, debemos continuar amándolo y adorándolo con todo nuestro corazón. Debemos continuar buscando Su rostro y pidiendo Su guía para cada paso. Debemos continuar siguiendo Su dirección y pacientemente confiar en Su tiempo.

A Firm And Gentle Resolve

A_Firm_And_Gentle_Resolve

In the message “Without Compromise” we saw three young Jewish men face the ultimate test of their convictions. When the king threatened to throw them into a blazing furnace if they did not bow to a golden image, the three calmly refused to compromise; “We will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up” (Daniel 3:18).

These three men had learned the importance of convictions when they were first brought as captives to Babylon. They were selected, along with another young man named Daniel, for a special program to prepare them to serve the Babylonian king. One of the “benefits” of this program was being fed choice food and drink from the king’s table. But Daniel knew these special favors were designed to pull them into a culture that did not honor God.

Daniel 1:8
“Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”

Although Daniel was determined not to partake in the ways of his captives, his initial approach was to graciously ask permission for him and his friends to follow their convictions. Daniel was resolved, but he also knew the importance of serving God through his interaction with other people.

Daniel continued to minister in this foreign land for over sixty years. He was a respected advisor to four different kings and taught them many lessons about the One True God. During this time, his faith was severely tested and he often faced great pressures to adopt the value system of ungodly people. But Daniel was prepared with a resolve that he would continue to follow God and God alone.

Many of us live in an environment which is hostile to the ways of God. Some are in work environments which actively promote ungodly activities and strike down those who even mention God. Many more of us face subtle hostilities from a world system which calls faith a crutch for the weak and uneducated, and teaches a truth which is relative and continually changing. Many ministry leaders even face pressures to dilute the gospel truth in the name of a distorted view of grace and tolerance, or the perceived need for increased membership.

We must be firm in our resolve not to defile ourselves by compromising our convictions or lowering our standards – our lives as well as our message must remain true to God’s Word. But we must also be gentle as we keep the doors open for the opportunity to minister and shine His light into the darkness. Our convictions must stand; and yet, they must be implemented with true grace and compassion. Let’s show the world around us the unfailing and never-changing love of God through a firm and gentle resolve.

Una Firme y Suave Resolución

En el mensaje “Sin Compromisos” vimos a tres jóvenes Judíos enfrentar la mayor prueba de sus convicciones. Cuando el rey les amenazó con echarles al horno de fuego si no se inclinaban a la imagen de oro, los tres tranquilamente negaron a comprometerse; “no honraremos a sus dioses ni adoraremos a su estatua” (Daniel 3:18).

Estos tres hombres habían aprendido la importancia de las convicciones cuando primeramente les llevaron como prisioneros a Babilonia. Fueron seleccionados, junto con otro joven que se llamaba Daniel, para un programa especial que les iba a preparar para servir al rey de Babilonia. Uno de los “beneficios” de este programa era tener la mejor comida y bebida de la mesa del rey. Pero Daniel sabía que estos favores especiales eran diseñados para integrarles a una cultura que no honraba a Dios.

Daniel 1:8
“Pero Daniel se propuso no contaminarse con la comida y el vino del rey, así que le pidió al jefe de oficiales que no lo obligara a contaminarse.”

Aunque Daniel estaba determinado a no participar en las maneras de los oficiales, su estrategia inicial era cortésmente pedir permiso para que el y sus amigos pudieran mantener sus convicciones. Daniel estaba determinado, pero también entendía la importancia de servir a Dios a través de su interacción con otra gente.

Daniel continuó ministrando en esta tierra extranjera por más de sesenta años. Fue consultor respetado de cuatro reyes diferentes y les enseñó muchas lecciones acerca del Único Dios Verdadero. Durante este tiempo, su fe fue severamente probada y con frecuencia enfrentó grandes presiones para adoptar un sistema de valores de la gente sin Dios. Pero Daniel estaba preparado con una determinación que iba a continuar siguiendo a Dios y solamente a Dios.

Muchos de nosotros vivimos en un ambiente que es hostil a los caminos de Dios. Algunos se encuentran en ambientes de trabajo que activamente promuevan actividades seculares y atacan aquellos que aún mencionan a Dios. Muchos mas de nosotros enfrentamos hostilidades sutiles de un sistema mundial que llama a la fe muleta para los débiles sin educación; y enseñan una verdad que es relativa y que continuamente cambia. Muchos líderes en el ministerio enfrentan presiones para diluir la verdad del evangelio en el nombre de una vista distorsionada de la gracia, tolerancia, y la importancia de incrementar la membresía.

Tenemos que proponernos a no contaminarnos comprometiendo nuestras convicciones o bajando nuestros estándares – es necesario que nuestras vidas igual como nuestro mensaje permanezcan fieles a la Palabra de Dios. Pero también debemos mantener las puertas abiertas para la oportunidad de ministrar y alumbrar Su luz en la oscuridad. Nuestras convicciones tienen que permanecer firmes; y aún, deben estar implementadas con gracia verdadera y compasión. Mostremos al mundo a nuestro alrededor el amor de Dios que nunca cambia y que nunca falla a través de una firme y suave resolución.

Without Compromise

Without_Compromise

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon desired to unite his kingdom by instituting a centralized form of worship. He built a statue of gold about 90 feet tall and 9 feet wide and ordered that everyone must fall down and worship the statue whenever the royal music began to play.

A report was delivered to the King that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were refusing to worship the golden image. The King summoned these three young Jewish men and gave them one more chance to conform to his rules for worship: “If you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?” (Daniel 3:15).

These three followers of Almighty God were faced with an ultimatum: “Compromise your beliefs, or die!” They could have found a way to rationalize this false worship. They could have found a variety of excuses for compromise. But rather than fall to the pressures of their surrounding environment, the three decided to live a life of unwavering faith and unashamed devotion to the One True God.

Daniel 3:17-18
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if He does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Though we seem to hear more stories every day, few of us will ever face a “Compromise or die!” ultimatum. But almost everyone will be tempted to push aside convictions and bow to such “golden images” as financial gain, physical pleasure, personal recognition, or the fear of conflict. We are also constantly tempted to “bow down” with the “entertainment” we watch, listen to, or read. Standing firm requires a determined effort to remain solidly on God’s path.

Hearing God’s direction for our life can sometimes be difficult; but one truth remains – God never asks us to compromise His standard in order to follow His path…NEVER! Of course, in discerning His standard, we need to look to what God has made clear and not necessarily to what has been created through our well-intended traditions. But once His standard is clear, we can be assured that ANY compromise represents a deviation from His plan.

Let’s strengthen the convictions God has already placed on our heart. We need not be ashamed of, nor fear, what we know is true, and we need never doubt the perfection of His path. Let’s live a life of consistent belief and trust such that what we believe is directly reflected in the way we live. Let’s take a stand and live a God-honoring life…without compromise.

Sin Compromiso

El Rey Nabucodonosor de Babilonia deseaba unir su reino estableciendo una forma central de veneración. Construyó una estatua de oro que tenía 90 pies de altura y 9 pies de ancho y les ordenó a todos que inclinaran y adoraran la estatua siempre que oyeran la música real comenzar a sonar.

Un reporte fue entregado al Rey que Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego estaban negándose a adorar la imagen de oro. El Rey les mandó a llamar a los tres Judíos jóvenes y les dio una oportunidad más para conformarse con sus reglas de veneración: “más les vale que se inclinen ante la estatua que he mandado hacer, y que la adoren. De lo contrario, serán lanzados de inmediato a un horno en llamas, ¡y no habrá dios capaz de librarlos de mis manos!” (Daniel 3:15).

Estos tres seguidores del Dios Todopoderoso enfrentaron un ultimátum: “Comprometer sus creencias, o morir!” Pudieron haber encontrado una manera para justificar esta adoración falsa – hubieran podido encontrar una variedad de excusas para llegar a un compromiso. Pero en vez de caer ante la presión del ambiente a su rededor, los tres decidieron vivir una vida de fe inmovible y una lealtad sin vergüenza al Único Dios Verdadero.

Daniel 3:17-18
“Si se nos arroja al horno en llamas, el Dios al que servimos puede librarnos del horno y de las manos de Su Majestad. Pero aun si nuestro Dios no lo hace así, sepa usted que no honraremos a sus dioses ni adoraremos a su estatua.”

Muy pocos de nosotros enfrentaremos un ultimátum de “Comprometerse o morir!” Pero casi todos estarán tentados a poner sus convicciones a un lado e inclinarse ante las “imágenes de oro” como ganancias monetarias, placeres físicos, reconocimientos, o simplemente para evitar conflictos. También estamos continuamente tentados a “inclinar” con el “entretenamiento” que vemos, escuchamos, o leemos. Pararnos firmes requiere a un esfuerzo determinado a permanecer sólidos en el camino de Dios.

Oír la dirección que tiene Dios para nuestras vidas puede algunas veces ser difícil; pero permanece una verdad – Dios NUNCA nos pide comprometer Sus estándares para poder seguir Su camino. Podemos estar seguros que CUALQUIER compromiso representa una desviación de Su plan.

Mantengamos las convicciones que Dios ha puesto en nuestro corazón. No debemos estar avergonzados ni temer lo que sabemos que es la verdad; nunca debemos dudar la perfección de Su camino. Vivamos una vida de constante creencia y confiemos hasta que nuestras creencias estén reflejadas en nuestra manera de vivir. Paremonos firmes y llevemos una vida que honra a Dios…sin compromisos.

God’s Chosen Instrument

God's_Chosen_Instrument

The great and mighty Apostle Paul was once the great and mighty persecutor of Christians and destroyer of the Church. He was so zealous that he actually went from house to house and dragged believers off to prison (Acts 8:3). Paul then set off for Damascus in order to rid the land of these “misguided” Christian troublemakers. However, Jesus had other plans!

Acts 9:3
“As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.”

Jesus revealed Himself to Paul in such a magnificent manner that there was no doubt as to the truth of the Gospel; “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting” (Acts 9:5). Paul encountered the living Christ on the road to Damascus and was literally blinded from the brilliant light – but his life was forever changed.

After three days, Jesus sent a man named Ananias to restore Paul’s sight. When Ananias hesitated because of Paul’s destructive reputation, Jesus made it clear that Paul was now God’s servant. “The Lord said to Ananias, ‘Go! This man is My chosen instrument to carry My name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel” (Acts 9:15).

Most of us will never encounter Jesus in such a dramatic fashion as Paul. One day, without any lights, voices, or great fanfare, Jesus simply meets us on the road and forever changes the course of our life. And just as Paul was called to carry the name of Jesus, we also have been called to follow the living Christ and carry His name to everyone He places along our path.

God could have chosen the rocks and trees to advance the Gospel message, but He didn’t. He could have written His plan of Salvation with a fiery finger in the clouds, but He didn’t. God chose us! Even with all our many flaws, jagged past, and sometimes overwhelming insecurity and fear of failure, we are still His messengers to a dark and dying world; “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

As we continue on this wonderful journey, with all its glorious peaks and fearfully jagged valleys, let’s commit to drawing closer to God and listening more intently to His leading. Let’s be faithful to advance His message of love through the forgiveness found only in Jesus. In this time of great spiritual need, with the world so desperate for truth, let’s remember that we are now God’s chosen instrument.

Instrumento Escogido de Dios

El grande y poderoso Apóstol Pablo fue una vez el grande y poderoso perseguidor de los Cristianos y destructor de la Iglesia. El era tan entusiasta que literalmente iba de casa en casa y arrastraba a los creyentes a la cárcel (Hechos 8:3). Pablo después salio de Damasco a fin de deshacerse de la tierra de estos Cristianos problemáticos “sin guía”. Sin embargo, ¡Jesús tenía otros planes!

Hechos 9:3
“Mas yendo por el camino, aconteció que al llegar cerca de Damasco, repentinamente le rodeó un resplandor de luz del cielo.”

Jesús se reveló a Pablo de tan magnífica manera que no había duda de la verdad del Evangelio; “Yo soy Jesús, a quien tú persigues” (Hechos 9:5). Pablo encontró al Cristo viviente en el camino a Damasco y fue literalmente cegado por una luz brillante – pero su vida fue cambiada para siempre.

Después de tres días Jesús envió a un hombre llamado Ananías para restaurar la vista de Pablo. Cuando Ananías vaciló por la reputación destructiva de Pablo, Jesús puso en claro que Pablo era hoy un buen siervo. “El Señor le dijo: Ve, porque instrumento escogido me es éste, para llevar mi nombre en presencia de los gentiles, y de reyes, y de los hijos de Israel” (Hechos 9:15).

La mayoría de nosotros jamás encontraremos a Dios de una manera tan dramática como Pablo. Un día, sin luces, voces, o gran fanfarria, Jesús simplemente nos encontró en el camino y cambió por siempre el rumbo de nuestra vida. Y así como Pablo fue llamado para llevar el nombre de Jesús, nosotros también hemos sido llamados para seguir al Cristo viviente y llevar Su nombre a todo aquel que el ponga en nuestro camino.

Dios pudo escoger a las piedras y los árboles para avanzar el mensaje del Evangelio, pero no lo hizo pudo haber escrito Su plan de salvación con un dedo de llamas en las nubes, pero no lo hizo – ¡El nos eligió a nosotros! Aún con todas nuestras muchas fallas, pasados accidentados, y algunas veces abrumadora inseguridad y temor al fracaso, somos aún Sus mensajeros para un mundo oscuro y agonizante; “Así que, somos embajadores en nombre de Cristo, como si Dios rogase por medio de nosotros” (2 Corintios 5:20).

Mientras continuamos en este maravilloso viaje, con todos sus cimas gloriosas y valles temibles, comprometámonos a acercarnos más a Dios y escuchar más decididamente su dirección. Seamos fieles en avanzar Su mensaje de amor a través del perdón que se encuentre solamente en Jesús. Porque en este tiempo de gran necesidad Espiritual cuando el mundo desesperadamente necesita oír la verdad, nosotros somos ahora instrumento escogido de Dios.

Opportunity For Action

Opportunity_For_Action

We often see the call of God as accompanied by a perceived risk. The risk we see may be in terms of finances, rejection, or failure, but there is always an element of the unknown in God’s call which requires us to trust and increase our faith. We should note that when we follow God’s call, the true risk only exists in our mind.

Oh, please don’t misunderstand. Following God’s call may require sacrifice and painful perseverance followed by seasons of doubt and frustration. There may even be severe trials and hardships along His path. But despite our physical circumstances, the middle of His plan is the safest and most secure place to walk. Walking in His perfect plan is eternally safe and secure, but it will continually call us to actively take steps of faith, one after the other.

When the tax collector came for the “two-drachma” tax, Jesus gave Peter very interesting instructions on how to obtain the necessary funds.

Matthew 17:27
“Go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.”

With all the power of Creation at His disposal, Jesus could have produced any number of coins and made them readily available. Yet, with the tax collector waiting by the door, Peter was told to excuse himself and take a fishing line down to the lake. Why go through all this trouble with the fish?

Our walk with Christ involves a long process of developing and growing our faith. It would have taken very little faith for Peter to pick a coin off the table and pay the tax. He was therefore given the “opportunity” to strengthen his faith as he trusted Jesus and not his own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). Peter’s faith grew, and therefore his closeness with Jesus, as he obeyed and cast out his fishing line.

Jesus is able to fully meet all our needs (Philippians 4:19). But He loves us enough to lead us to specific action; “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 2:17). The specific actions or accomplishments are never really the issue; rather, it is the growth in our relationship with Jesus which is important. Our faith becomes alive and we grow closer every time we obey, follow, and take the step!

What is Jesus asking of us today? Many are facing some very difficult decisions. We don’t understand why God is calling, and we can’t see how His plan will fit together. His call is probably nothing as far fetched as the coin in the fish, but the message in His call is the same; He is saying, “Trust Me and love Me with all your heart!” When our Savior calls, we must be prepared to follow, because, when He calls, we will always be given the opportunity for action.

Oportunidad para la Acción

En el mensaje “El Riesgo de la Fe” vimos que el llamado de Dios siempre esta acompañado por un riesgo percibido. El riesgo podría estar en términos de las finanzas, rechazo, o el fracaso; pero siempre habrá un elemento desconocido en el llamado de Dios que requiere que confiemos y que incrementemos nuestra fe. Debemos notar que cuando seguimos el llamado de Dios, el riesgo verdadero solamente existe en nuestra mente.

Oh, por favor no mal interprete. Seguir a Dios quizá requiera sacrificio y una perseverancia dolorosa – podrán haber pruebas y circunstancias difíciles a lo largo de Su camino – pero a pesar de nuestras circunstancia físicas, enmedio de Su plan es el lugar mas seguro para caminar. Pero caminar en Su plan perfecto continuamente nos llamará a tomar un paso de fe activamente.

Cuando llegaron los que cobran el impuesto de “dos dracmas”, Jesús le dio a Pedro unas instrucciones muy interesantes de como obtener los fondos necesarios.

Mateo 17:27
“Vete al lago y echa el anzuelo. Saca el primer pez que pique; ábrele la boca y encontrarás una moneda. Tómala y dásela a ellos por mi impuesto y por el tuyo.”

Con todo el poder de Creación a Su disposición, Jesús hubiera podido producir cualquier cantidad de monedas para poder pagar el impuesto. Pero, con el cobrador esperando en la puerta, a Pedro se le fue dicho que se disculpara y que tomara su caña de pescar al lago. ¿Porque pasar por tanta molestia con el pez?

Nuestro caminar con Cristo consiste en desarrollar y crecer constantemente nuestra fe. Hubiera requerido muy poca fe para que Pedro recogiera una moneda de la mesa para pagar el impuesto. Entonces le fue dado una “oportunidad” de fortalecer su fe cuando confió en Jesús y no en su propio entendimiento (Proverbios 3:5-6). La fe de Pedro creció, y también su cercanía con Jesús, en la manera que obedeció y lanzó su caña para pescar.

Jesús es capaz de suplir todas nuestras necesidades (Filipenses 4:19). Pero El nos ama lo suficiente para guiarnos a tomar acciones específicas; “la fe por sí sola, si no tiene obras, está muerta” (Santiago 2:17). El objetivo realmente nunca consiste en acciones especificas o logros; sino, el crecimiento en nuestra relación con Jesús es lo más importante. ¡Nuestra fe se hace viva y crece cada vez que obedecemos, seguimos y tomamos pasos!

¿Que esta pidiendo Jesús de nosotros ahora? Muchos estan enfrentando decisiones difíceles. No entendemos por que Dios esta llamando, y no vemos como se construye Su plan. Su llamado probablemente no es nada tan ilógico como una moneda en un pez; pero el mensaje es lo mismo y nos dice: “Confía en Mi y amar a Mi con todo tu corazón!” Cuando nuestro Salvador nos llama, tenemos que estar preparados para seguir. Cuando El llama, siempre nos dará la oportunidad para tomar acción.
