Touch of Compassion

In the last two messages, we have seen how the prophet Elijah was used to call the people of Israel back to worship of the One True God. We saw Elijah witness the mighty power of God but then become afraid and run into the desert when threatened by the Queen.

How would God handle His chosen prophet, His messenger who had been assigned to proclaim the Truth to the people of Israel? What would God say to Elijah, the man now crumpled under a tree wishing to die: “I have had enough, Lord. Take my life” (1 Kings 19:4).

1 Kings 19:5-6
“All at once an angel touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat.’ He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.”

God could have chastised and rebuked Elijah. He could have answered with a loud thunder, “Am I not the God who rained down fire from Heaven and then blackened the sky with clouds? Have I not answer your prayers? How can you now doubt Me and wish to die because of your fear?”

Yes, God could have given His “How can you doubt Me?” speech, but He did not. Rather, God saw Elijah’s tired pain and showed simple compassion. He ministered to Elijah by sending an angel to give a gentle touch and bake a cake. The time would soon come for Elijah to rise and follow hard after God; but for now, God comforted Elijah and allowed for a very necessary rest.

We must continue to learn what it means to be a loving and caring Family. All who have been saved through faith in the sacrifice of Jesus have been “baptized by one Spirit into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13). And as members of “one body,” we must learn to effectively minister and truly help one another.

Very few circumstances require us to provide a complete solution. We usually must avoid trying to “fix” what we believe has been broken. Most often, our Brothers and Sisters simply need a friend who will compassionately listen and show they care by helping them rest and regain their strength. It’s amazing how many Spiritual truths are clearly seen after a little cake and a good night of sleep.

So many of God’s children face pain, weariness, fears, and frustration which keep them from experiencing the fullness of God’s joy and peace. But each of us can help ease the pain and lighten the load through biblical words of truth and encouragement…along with a gentle touch of compassion.

Toque de Compasión

En los últimos dos mensajes, hemos visto como el profeta Elías fue usado por Dios para llamar a la gente de Israel para regresar a adorar al Único Dios Verdadero. Vimos a Elías presenciar el gran poder de Dios pero después se hizo temeroso y corrió al desierto cuando fue amenazado por la Reina.

¿Como podría Dios manejar a Su profeta elegido – Su mensajero que fue asignado para proclamar la verdad a la gente de Israel? Que diría Dios al hombre que estaba ahora desplomado bajo un árbol deseando morir: “Basta ya, oh Jehová, quítame la vida” (1 Reyes 19:4).

1 Reyes 19:5-6
“Y he aquí luego un ángel le tocó, y le dijo: Levántate, come. Entonces él miró, y he aquí a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y una vasija de agua; y comió y bebió, y volvió a dormirse.”

Dios pudo haber castigado y reprendido a Elías. El pudo haber respondido con un fuerte trueno, “¿No soy yo el Dios que hizo llover fuego del Cielo y después oscureció el cielo con nubes? ¿No he contestado tus oraciones? ¿Como puedes ahora dudar de Mi y desear morirte por el temor?”

Si, Dios pudo darle Su discurso: “¿Como puedes dudar de Mi?” pero no lo hizo. Dios vio el cansancio y dolor de Elías y mostró simple compasión. El ministró a Elías enviando un ángel a darle un suave toque y cocinarle una torta. El tiempo pronto iva a llegar para que Elias se levantara y siguiera esforzadamente después de Dios; pero por ahora, El confortó a Elías y permitió un necesario descanso.

Debemos continuar aprendiendo lo que significa ser una Familia amorosa y solidaria. Todos los que han sido salvados por la fe en el sacrificio de Jesús han sido “por un solo Espíritu fuimos todos bautizados en un cuerpo” (1 Corintios 12:13). Y como miembros de “un cuerpo,” debemos aprender a ministrar y verdaderamente ayudarnos unos a otros.

Muy pocas circunstancias requieren una solución completa de nuestra parte; usualmente debemos evitar tratar de “arreglar” lo que creemos que esta destruido. Más frecuentemente, nuestros Hermanos y Hermanas simplemente necesitan un amigo que los escuche y demuestre interés por ayudarles a descansar y recuperar su fuerza. Es asombroso como muchas verdades Espirituales se ven claras después de un pequeño pastel y una buena noche de descanso.

Muchos de los hijos de Dios enfrentan el dolor, cansancio, temor y frustración que los apartan de experimentar la llenura de la paz y el gozo de Dios. Pero cada uno de nosotros puede ayudar a disminuir el dolor y alivianar la carga a través de palabras de verdades bíblicas y animo…junto con un suave toque de compasión.

A Fragile Victory

In the message “The Lord is God – Follow Him” we saw how Elijah was used to demonstrate God’s power and call the people of Israel back to a life of worship. Elijah witnessed the miraculous and unequaled power of God as he prayed during his confrontation with the 450 prophets of Baal; “The fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, … and also licked up the water in the trench” (1 Kings 18:38).

After this unquestioned answer to prayer, Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and prayed for rain; there had not been rain in the land for three years. Once again, Elijah witnessed the miraculous hand of God; “The sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose and a heavy rain came” (1 Kings 18:45). But within a few days of these great spiritual victories, Queen Jezebel vowed to have Elijah killed. As soon as Elijah heard of the Queen’s threat, he became afraid and ran for his life into the desert.

1 Kings 19:4
“He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.'”

Elijah was a man who spoke directly with God and clearly witnessed His awesome power; yet, he fell into great despair when faced with this new adversity. Elijah experienced a wonderful victory, but it was quickly shattered.

What caused Elijah to become so discouraged? Had he already forgotten God’s power? Had a few victories caused him to take his eyes off God and begin to rely on his own strength? Or was he just worn out from being on the front line of ministry? Whatever the cause, in his moment of greatest victory Elijah became the most vulnerable to attack and failure; “I have had enough, Lord.”

When life is a struggle, we must pray and “trust in the Lord with all our heart” (Proverbs 3:5). When life is running smooth, we must pray harder and trust even more. But when we experience victory and dance on top of the mountain – when we begin to feel strong and “self” assured – we must pray as if our very life depended on it and lean on the Lord as never before. Our moments of greatest vulnerability to enemy attack come when we begin to think we no longer require God’s help. After the mountaintop, the broom tree is closer than we might think.

Lord, remind us of our need! ALL we accomplish is through the strength of Christ; “apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). And as His promises are fulfilled in our lives, we must continue to walk daily by faith. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus and reclaim the life of dependent devotion. Let’s remain in His presence and always guard against a fragile victory.

Una Frágil Victoria

En el mensaje “El Señor es Dios – Siguelo” vimos como Elías fue usado para demostrar el poder de Dios y llamar a la gente de Israel de nuevo a una vida de adoración. Elías presenció los milagros y el inigualable poder de Dios mientras oraba durante su enfrentamiento con los 450 profetas de Baal; “En ese momento cayó el fuego del Señor y quemó el holocausto, la leña, las piedras y el suelo, y hasta lamió el agua de la zanja” (1 Reyes 18:38).

Después de esta incuestionable respuesta a la oración, Elías escaló a la cumbre del Monte Carmelo y oró por lluvia – no había llovido en la tierra por tres años. Una vez más Elías fue testigo de la milagrosa mano de Dios; “Las nubes fueron oscureciendo el cielo; luego se levantó el viento y se desató una fuerte lluvia” (1Reyes 18:45). Pero unos días después de estas grandes victorias espirituales, la Reina Jezabel prometió matar a Elías. Tan pronto como Elías escuchó la amenaza de la Reina, se atemorizó y corrió para salvarse hacia el desierto.

1 Reyes 19:4
“Llegó adonde había un arbusto, y se sentó a su sombra con ganas de morirse. ‘¡Estoy harto, Señor!’ protestó. ‘Quítame la vida, pues no soy mejor que mis antepasados.'”

Elías fue un hombre que habló directamente con Dios y que claramente vio Su tremendo poder; aún así, cayó en gran desesperación cuando enfrentó esta nueva adversidad.

¿Que hizo que Elías fuera tan frágil?, ¿Se había olvidado del poder de Dios?, ¿Tener esas victorias lo hizo quitar sus ojos de Dios y descansar en Su propia fuerza?, ¿O fue separado de la línea principal de ministerio? Cualquiera que fuera la causa, en un momento de gran victoria, Elías se volvió vulnerable; “He tenido suficiente, Señor.”

Cuando la vida es una batalla, debemos orar y “confiar en el Señor con todo nuestro corazón” (Proverbios 3:5). Cuando la vida esta corriendo fluidamente, debemos orar mas fuerte y confiar aún mas. Pero cuando experimentamos victoria y danzamos en la cima de la montaña – cuando comenzamos a sentirnos fuertes y “suficientes” – debemos orar como si el estar vivos dependiera de eso y descansar en el Señor como nunca antes. Nuestros momentos de gran vulnerabilidad a los ataques del enemigo llegan cuando comenzamos a pensar que ya no necesitamos la ayuda de Dios.

Señor, recuerdanos de nuestra necesidad! TODO lo que logramos es a través de la fuerza de Cristo; “separados de Mi, nada podéis hacer” (Juan 15:5). Y mientras Sus promesas se cumplen en nuestras vidas, preparémonos para un sostenido y constante caminar de fe. Mantengamos nuestros ojos puestos en Jesús y reclamamos la vida de devoción dependente. Permanezcamos en Su presencia y siempre cuidemonos de las victorias frágiles.

The Lord is God – Follow Him

Soon after entering the promised land of Canaan, the children of Israel forgot about God and all He had done. They soon began to worship the false gods of Baal and the love-goddess, Asherah. It seemed like every generation from that time forward was tempted into worshipping these false gods.

About five hundred years later, God rose up Elijah to be His chosen spokesman – His prophet. The Israelites were still being enticed to worship other gods, and the time had come for a direct confrontation between Elijah and the many false prophets of Baal: “Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal” (1 Kings 18:19).

Elijah and the false prophets were to pray to their respective gods, with the “winner” determined by how the prayers were answered: “You call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire – He is God” (1 Kings 18:24). But prior to calling on the Lord, Elijah gave a challenge for the people of Israel to make a commitment.

1 Kings 18:21
“How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”

Elijah prayed, and God answered with enough fire to remove any and all doubt. The people clearly saw the hand of the Lord and readily made their choice: “The Lord – He is God! The Lord – He is God!” (1 Kings 18:39).

We face the same challenge today. However, instead of two or three choices, we now have many gods which continually entice us into worship – many gods who desire our time and energy. The world offers a long list of “worthy” candidates: television, money, power, prestige, sex, drugs, food, sports, internet, education…the list goes on. “These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under the heavens” (Jeremiah 10:11). Who, or what, is truly worthy of our worship?

The challenge today is simple. If the Lord is God – follow Him. If we have recognized our sinful condition, repented of our sin and asked Jesus to be our Savior, then we must continue by being transformed into His likeness – we must follow Him. We cannot allow the “distractions” in life to become our god. We must devote our heart, soul, mind and strength to loving our Heavenly Father, and commit ourselves to whatever tasks He has given us to accomplish. Our choice is clear, and our response must be boldly decisive: The Lord is God – Follow Him!

El Señor es Dios – Sigamoslo

Pronto luego de entrar en la tierra prometida de Canaán los hijos de Israel se olvidaron de Dios, y de todo lo que El había hecho, y comenzaron a adorar los falsos Dioses de Baal y a la diosa del amor, Asera. Parecía como si toda generación desde ese tiempo fue tentada a adorar a esos falsos dioses.

Unos quinientos años mas tarde, Dios levantó a Elías para ser Su vocero elegido – Su profeta. Los Israelitas aún seguían atraídos a adorar otros dioses, y llegó el tiempo de una confrontación directa entre Elías y los muchos falsos profetas de Baal: “Envía, pues, ahora y congrégame a todo Israel en el monte Carmelo, y los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal” (1 Reyes 18:19). Elías y los falsos profetas debían orar a sus respectivos dioses. El “ganador” sería determinado por la respuesta a la oración: “Invocad luego vosotros el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré el nombre de Jehová; y el Dios que respondiere por medio de fuego, ése sea Dios” (1 Reyes 18:24). Pero antes de orar al Señor, Elías le dio a la gente de Israel el reto de hacer un compromiso.

1 Reyes 18:21
“¿Hasta cuándo claudicaréis vosotros entre dos pensamientos? Si Jehová es Dios, seguidle; y si Baal, id en pos de él.”

Elías oró, y Dios respondió con suficiente fuego para quitar toda duda. La gente vio claramente la mano del Señor y de buena gana hicieron Su elección: “Viéndolo todo el pueblo, se postraron y dijeron: !!Jehová es el Dios, Jehová es el Dios!” (1 Reyes 18:39).

Enfrentamos el mismo reto hoy. Sin embargo, en lugar de dos o tres elecciones, ahora tenemos muchos dioses que continuamente nos atraen a adorarlos – muchos dioses que desean nuestro tiempo y energía. El mundo ofrece una larga lista de candidatos “mundanos” – televisión, dinero, poder, prestigio, sexo, drogas, comida, deportes, internet, educación…y la lista continua: “Los dioses que no hicieron los cielos ni la tierra, desaparezcan de la tierra y de debajo de los cielos” (Jeremías 10:11). ¿Quien (o que) verdaderamente vale la pena en nuestra adoración?

El reto ahora es simple. Si el Señor es Dios – sigamoslo. Si hemos reconocido nuestra naturaleza pecaminosa, arrepintámonos de nuestro pecado y pidamosle a Dios que sea nuestro Salvador, debemos continuar siendo trasformados a Su semejanza – debemos seguirlo. No podemos permitir que las distracciones en nuestra vida se conviertan en nuestro dios. Debemos dedicar nuestro corazón, alma, mente y fuerza a amar a nuestro Padre Celestial y comprometernos a cualquier tarea que El nos encomiende. Nuestra elección es clara, y nuestra respuesta debe ser muy firme. El Señor es Dios – Sigamoslo.

Guided By Closed Doors

As we continue our search for God’s direction – patiently waiting and actively seeking His presence – we ought to rejoice with every single step He reveals. As we draw closer to Jesus, we will desire, more and more, to only take steps which are aligned with His will. Therefore, ANY direction from God, no matter which way He leads and no matter what method He uses to direct, should be a reason to rejoice.

During his dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, Paul received specific direction from Jesus; “get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do” (Acts 9:6). A few years later, the Holy Spirit specifically directed Paul to begin his first missionary journey; “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul {Paul} for the work to which I have called them” (Acts 13:2).

Midway through his second journey, God directed Paul with peace and assurance: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you” (Acts 18:9-10). And at the end of his third journey, Paul once again received specific direction; “And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem” (Acts 20:22).

God often leads us by opening doors and lighting a path for us to follow. But there are also many times when God directs by simply telling us where NOT to go.

Acts 16:6-7
“Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.”

Paul was still walking with God – still being directed by His Spirit – but now God’s direction was in the form of closed doors. Paul never appeared to get discouraged when God closed a door; he simply allowed himself to be redirected toward whatever door God opened.

So much of our Christian growth is a process of relinquishing control and trusting God to completely direct our life. He alone is in control of the doors; “What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open” (Revelation 3:7). It is a mixture of pride and foolishness that causes us to continually push on doors which God has closed.

Our Heavenly Father is constantly guiding and calling us to trust Him more. He opens doors which require us to step through in faith, and closes doors which require us to patiently wait. His guiding hand is always a reason to rejoice, even when we are lovingly guided by closed doors.

Guiado Por Puertas Cerradas

Mientras continuamos nuestra búsqueda por la dirección de Dios – esperando pacientemente y buscando activamente Su presencia – debemos regocijarnos con cada paso que El nos revela. Mientras nos acercamos a Jesús, desearemos más y más, solo tomar aquellos pasos que están alineados con Su voluntad. Por lo tanto, CUALQUIER dirección de Dios – no importa por que rumbo nos lleve, no importa que método utilice para guiarnos – deberá ser una razón de gozo.

Durante su dramática conversión de camino a Damasco, Pablo recibió dirección específica de Jesús; “Levántate y entra en la ciudad, y se te dirá lo que debes hacer” (Hechos 9:6). Unos años más tarde, el Espíritu de Dios específicamente dirigió a Pablo para comenzar su primer viaje misionero; “Apartadme a Bernabé y a Saulo para la obra a que los he llamado” (Hechos 13:2).

A la mitad del camino del segundo viaje de Pablo, Dios dirigió a Pablo a través de la paz y la seguridad: “No temas, sino habla, y no calles; porque yo estoy contigo” (Hechos 18:9-10). Y al final del tercer viaje Pablo nuevamente recibió dirección específica; “Ahora, he aquí, ligado yo en espíritu, voy a Jerusalén” (Hechos 20:22).

Dios frecuentemente nos conduce por puertas abiertas, iluminando caminos para que los sigamos. Pero hay también muchas ocasiones en las que Dios nos dirige simplemente diciendonos hacia donde NO ir.

Hechos 16:6-7
“Y atravesando Frigia y la provincia de Galacia, les fue prohibido por el Espíritu Santo hablar la palabra en Asia; y cuando llegaron a Misia, intentaron ir a Bitinia, pero el Espíritu no se lo permitió.”

Pablo estaba aún caminando con Dios – aún siendo dirigido por Su Espíritu – pero ahora la dirección de Dios tenía forma de puertas cerradas. Pablo nunca pareció desanimarse cuando Dios cerraba una puerta; el simplemente se permitió a si mismo ser redirigido hacia cualquier lugar en que Dios abría la puerta.

Mucho de nuestro crecimiento Cristiano es un proceso de renunciar al control y confiar en Dios para que completamente dirija nuestra vida. Únicamente El está en control de las puertas; “el que abre y ninguno cierra, y cierra y ninguno abre” (Apocalipsis 3:7). Es una mezcla de orgullo y terquedad la que ocasiona que continuamente sigamos forzando puertas que Dios ha cerrado.

Nuestro Padre Celestial está continuamente guiándonos y llamándonos a confiar más en El. El abre puertas que requieren que demos un paso de fe, y cierra puertas que requieren que esperemos pacientemente. Su mano guiadora es siempre una razón para regocijarnos – aún cuando seamos amorosamente guiados por puertas cerradas.

Leave No Regrets

Five and a half years ago we were in the middle of cancer treatment with our then thirteen year old daughter. Working through the pain and uncertainty of a child with cancer, not knowing what direction life would take, gave me many opportunities to ask some important questions. Many of you remember the cancer struggles several years ago with my sister and her dying at age forty-four. Cancer has been cruel to our family with my mother also dying of cancer at age forty-three. Over the past many years, and more so recently, I have often pondered my own life and asked the questions: “What if this day was my last? Would I have any regrets?”

John the Baptist discovered the uncertainty of each moment of life as he sat in prison.

I guess they call me “John the Baptist” because I preached a message of repentance and baptized with water while pointing the way to Jesus (John 1:31-33). “The Baptist” isn’t such a bad name. I could have been called “John the Wearer of Camel Hair” or “John the Eater of Locusts.”

King Herod must have been mad at me for exposing his sin of marrying his brother’s wife (Matthew 14:3-4). I sure wish I was back in the desert preaching, but God must have a plan for me here in prison. I think Herod actually likes me. He often listens to me talk and seems genuinely interested (Mark 6:20). It’s pretty loud in the palace tonight. They must be having quite a party.

Matthew 14:6-10
“On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. Prompted by her mother, she said, ‘Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.’ The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted and had John beheaded in the prison.”

Wow, that was fast! No time to say good-bye or write letters to my friends – no time to even gather my thoughts – just, “lean over and put your neck on the block.” I sure wish I would have…..

No one knows when they will breathe their last. We may have sixty years or sixty minutes; but no matter how long we have, it will seem to pass in an instant. It amazes me how fast life passes by. The time to place our saving faith in Jesus is NOW! The time to restore relationships and encourage others with the gospel is NOW! The time to enjoy our family is NOW! And the time to praise God for His blessings and grace is absolutely NOW!!

Each of us enters this day with things we wish we could change, decisions and words which have not been honoring to God. But each of us also enters this day with the ability to begin, right this very moment, to live a life which glorifies God in all we do. Let’s begin today to live fully committed to following Christ. Let’s give Him our ALL and live toward an end which will leave no regrets.

Cuando mi madre tuvo la edad de cuarenta y tres años, desarrolló un cáncer en la piel y murió después de cuatro meses del primer diagnóstico. Como un hombre joven en mis veintes, yo recuerdo la edad de cuarenta años mayor de lo que me parece ahora. Mientras me aproximé a la edad de cuarenta y tres años (es difícil creer que fue hace catorce años!), yo también desarrollé un caso del mismo cáncer de piel que causó la muerte de mi madre. Afortunadamente, la detección y tratamiento de cáncer en la piel ha mejorado en una gran manera y yo estoy bien – ¡gloria a Dios! Pero esta combinación de eventos me hizo reflexionar seriamente: “¿Que, si este fuera mi último día? ¿Tendré algun lamento?”

Juan el Bautista descubrió la incertidumbre de cada momento de la vida mientras permaneció en prisión.

Me imagino que me llaman “Juan El Bautista” porque predique un mensaje de arrepentimiento y bautice en agua mientras trataba de hablarles del camino a Jesús (Juan 1:31-33). “El Bautista” no es un nombre tan malo. Pude haber sido llamado “Juan el que viste con Pelo de Camello” o “Juan el Comedor de Langosta.”

El Rey Herodes debió estar enojado conmigo por exponer su pecado de haberse casado con la esposa de su hermano (Mateo 14:3-4). Cuanto quisiera estar de regreso en el desierto predicando; pero Dios debe tener un plan para mi aquí en prisión. Creo que realmente soy del agrado de Herodes. Con frecuencia me escucha hablar y parece genuinamente interesado (Marcos 6:20). Hay mucho ruido en el palacio esta noche. Deben estar teniendo una gran fiesta.

Mateo 14:6-10
“Pero cuando se celebraba el cumpleaños de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en medio, y agradó a Herodes, por lo cual éste le prometió con juramento darle todo lo que pidiese. Ella, instruida primero por su madre, dijo: Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista. Entonces el rey se entristeció; pero a causa del juramento, y de los que estaban con él a la mesa, mandó que se la diesen, y ordenó decapitar a Juan en la cárcel.”

Eso fue rápido! No hubo tiempo de decir adiós o escribir cartas a los amigos – no hubo tiempo siquiera para poner juntos mis pensamientos – solo, “arrecuestate y pon tu cabeza en el bloque.” Si tuviera que hacerlo de nuevo lo haría…

Nadie sabe cuando será su último aliento; podríamos tener sesenta años o sesenta minutos, pero de cualquier manera parecerá que pasa en un instante. ¡El tiempo de poner nuestra fe salvadora en Jesús es AHORA! ¡El tiempo de restaurar relaciones y animar a otros con el evangelio es AHORA! ¡El tiempo de disfrutar nuestra familia es AHORA! ¡¡Y el tiempo de orar a Dios por Su precioso regalo de bendición y gracia (mas que nada en la vida!) es absolutamente AHORA!!

Cada uno de nosotros entramos en este día con cosas que deseamos poder cambiar; decisiones y palabras que no han honrado a Dios. Pero cada uno de nosotros también entramos en este día con la habilidad de comenzar, ahora, a vivir una vida que glorifique a Dios en todo lo que hacemos. Comencemos ahora a vivir una vida completamente comprometida a seguir a Cristo. Demosle a El TODO nuestro ser y vivamos hacia un final el cual no dejará lamentos.

Only One is Needed

Only_One_is_Needed

It seems everywhere we turn, whether in the news or in our own relationships, we are faced with stories of pain and heartache, frustration and confusion; people are crying out for help and simply existing from day to day. This is NOT the life God intended! The abundance of trials we see today is not necessarily a reflection of a drastic change in the world; rather, it’s likely the result of our eyes being opened and our heart becoming more sensitive to His Spirit. We see pain where we did not see it before, but our ability to see now begs us to offer a solution.

We who have placed our faith in Jesus Christ have indeed been radically changed, whether we realize it or not. We have been given the ability to see with new eyes and redefine what is truly important; we have been set free to live a new kind of life. We now must live this life and proclaim His truth: Jesus came to set us free! Eternal freedom is found only through the complete forgiveness offered by Jesus, but daily freedom – daily contentment and peace – is found only through complete submission and devotion.

Martha had become irritated that her sister Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus rather than helping her prepare the meal. In fact, she was so bothered she approached Jesus and said: “Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” (Luke 10:40). But Jesus very patiently replied:

Luke 10:41-42
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

The world continually tries to tell us what is necessary and important – but it’s a lie! And we never really understand or see the deception until we consistently make the time to worship at the feet of Jesus and hear Him say; “You have now chosen what is better.”

No matter what this day may bring, we must live each and every moment in devotion to our Lord. No matter what our circumstances, we CAN be set free…and we can offer this freedom to others. We may need to adjust our priorities and eliminate some things which consume our time and clutter our thoughts, but the freedom of true worship at His feet is worth it ALL. Let’s boldly respond by taking a stand for Christ, faithfully proclaiming His truth to the world, and building our life on His solid foundation. Let’s remember that though many things may seem important, only one is needed!

Solo Una Es Necesaria

Las noticias están llenas con historias de dolor y pena, de frustración y confusión. Parece que a todo lugar que vamos, la gente estan clamando por ayuda y simplemente viviendo el día. ¡Esta NO es la vida que Dios destinó para nosotros! La abundancia de pruebas que vemos ahora no es necesariamente el reflejo de un cambio drástico en el mundo; en lugar de eso, es el resultado de nuestros ojos siendo abiertos y nuestro corazón volviéndose más sensible a Su Espíritu. Este es un llamado que requiere de una respuesta decidida.

Sobre los últimos años, Dios ha hecho un cambio radical en mi vida. Yo no veo ya con los mismos ojos y mi definición de “importante” ha sido completamente transformada. Trato de vivir cada día en sumisión al Espíritu de Cristo y busco glorificarlo en todo lo que hago. De hecho, muchas veces quedo corto, pero el resultado ha sido una maravillosa paz y contentamiento. A menudo soy abrumado con las bendiciones de Dios y no puedo más que alabarle por haberme hecho libre.

Nosotros quienes hemos puesto nuestra fe en Jesucristo verdaderamente hemos sido liberados; y ahora tenemos que vivir y proclamar Su verdad: Vino a librarnos! La libertad eterna solo se encuentra por medio del perdón completo de la cruz, pero la libertad diaria – paz y contentamiento diario – solo se encuentra por medio de sumisión y devoción.

Marta se irritó porque su hermana María estaba sentada a los pies de Jesús en lugar de ayudarla a preparar la comida. De hecho, estaba tan molesta que abordó a Jesús y le dijo: “¿no te da cuidado que mi hermana me deje servir sola? Dile, pues, que me ayude” (Lucas 10:40). Pero Jesús muy pacientemente respondió:

Lucas 10:41-42
“Marta, Marta, afanada y turbada estás con muchas cosas. Pero sólo una cosa es necesaria; y María ha escogido la buena parte, la cual no le será quitada.”

El mundo continuamente trata de decirnos lo que es necesario e importante – ¡pero es mentira! Y realmente nunca lo comprendemos ni lo vemos hasta que consistentemente hacemos el tiempo para adorar a los pies de Jesús y oírle decir; “Ahora has elegido lo que es mejor.”

No importa lo que este día pueda traer, debemos vivir todos y cada momento en devoción a nuestro Señor. ¡No importa las circunstancias, podemos SER LIBERADOS! Quizá sea necesario que ajustemos nuestras prioridades y eliminar algunas cosas que consumen nuestro tiempo y confunden nuestros pensamientos; pero la verdadera adoración a Sus pies lo vale TODO. Parémonos firmes para Cristo, fielmente proclamemos Su verdad al mundo, y construyamos nuestra vida en Su sólida fundación. ¡Recordemos que aunque muchas cosas pueden parecer importantes, solo una es necesaria!
